My dog has a real bad rash on her lower stomach. It is real red, ans she is constantly itching it. She is also itching around her chest. About a week ago I found a flea on me. Could she have fleas. I would go up to the vet, but I am real low on money, and a vet visit is already 25, 30 dollars.

It sounds like it might be a skin allergy, not fleas. Although, she could still have fleas, and that's making things worse. She probably does need to see a vet, although you could try going to a pet store like PetCo and ask them if they have any creams or ointments for dog skin problems. You'd have to make sure she doesn't lick it off too, so you'd probably have to buy one of those "satellite dishes" for around her neck. All that will probably cost you as much as the vet!

I'd like to lecture you on keeping a small savings for medical emergencies, both pet and human, so that your pup doesn't have to suffer just because your low on cash. But I won't ;)

Good luck!!!

If you found a flea on you it is very possible she does. I would look on her stomach and by her ears (where fleas like to be the most). The best meds I have found for that is front-line. (it can be expensive as well..but you won't have to pay for a office visit on top of it). Please do not use a flea collar they are not effective and if your pet is able to get it off they can chew on it and the chemicals are NOT good for them.

Allergies can be causing her rash as well, you give him over the counter benadryl (I'm sorry I do not know the spelling of that). HOWEVER you need to call the vet to get the right dosage (it will vary with the weight of the dog). That will help with the itching (if it is not fleas).

For the rash you can get an over the counter cream (i.e. antibiotic cream in the pharmacy of your local store). Be sure to call your vet and ask what kind you can use on your dog.

GOOD LUCK!!

I say yes she does. U need to find a good flea shampoo and bathe her the amount it says...no less. U don't need to go to the vet for this. So, save ur money. Even though u r bathing her u need to do other things in ur house as well and her sleeping area outside. Vacuum ur house a couple of times a day and bleach floors. Make sure u include furniture under furniture and in every nook and cranny. With her sleeping area u need to disinfect the area and her blankets and or bed too need to be done. keep this up for at least a few weeks to insure there are no new adults and no new eggs hatching. It is a lot of work but it is better to have ur dog and urself bothered by these little bugs. They will start attacking u too!

yes she definately has fleas! Get her frontline treated today (that is the oil in the answer above) it is great and really does work and use some emergency flea powder along her neck and back- it is so important and will prevent her from getting sicker. The below answer is wrong - it does sound as if she has a flea allergy rash, and this can make dogs chronically ill. Where do you live? I'll send you some if you like

If you have fleas, there's no doubt your dog does too! Give her a good bath with some flea shampoo, but make sure not to get it in her eyes or ears! Save your money, and when you can go to the vet, buy some Frontline or K9 Advantix flea treatment. WIth the rashes, she is most likely allergic to flea saliva, so you are going to have to be very diligent with her treatment!

You need to bathe the dog with Scratchex brand dog flea soap,,dry & then spray with Hartz flea spray.Vaccuum your house alot & wash dogs bedding in bleach.Repeat the process in a couple weeks as the eggs are still around.Dont make the bath too warm.Do not use products on the head & face.Start at the neck & work it to the tip of the tail & legs etc.Follow directions.Fleas dont live on the pet,,they jump on to feed off of the dogs blood which can cause anemia in the dog.Good luck.Feel free to e-mail me anytime with any questions you may have.

Buy a flea comb and bomb through the dog's hair while it is standing in a shower tray or similar. You will see the fleas dropping if the dog has any. Flea powders are effective and cheap. The rash is more likely to be a skin disease than flea related.

Probably does. Fleas cause heart worm so you might want to rethink the no vet thing. You need to get the dog treated and deflea the house, furniture, rugs, dogs bed.....
OTC stuff is harmful to pets. Use a credit card or arrange for payments.

If you have fleas, then your dog gave them to you. Flea collars do not work. There is an oil that you can put between your dogs shoulder blades that will last a month. Ask about it at PetSmart or PetCo. My dog never has fleas and it is what I use.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.
