My puppy is a 5 month old male Minature Pinscher, house breaking is going well but we are having a problem that he intermittantly pees on one of his front paws.

How can I get him to stop this?

Other than frequent bathing of his front paws how can I control the odour?

Not much you can do, other than making sure there is no hair on his pee-er..You can wipe his foot with babywipes..they will de-odorize, and keep them from staining.
If you put a smear of his pee, on a favorite post..higher than he normally pees, then he may try to hike his leg, and reach the mark sooner, and pee higher.
But, just be happy that he is a short haired breed..it is a much worse problem with the longhaired dogs!.

OMG! I'm going through the exact same thing with my puppy. If you figure this one out let me know. As of right now, I keep a container of "Dogwipes" (yes, that's the correct name) net to my back door so I can wash his paws before he comes in.

I realize a lot of this has to do with squatting, and he is only 5 months and has yet to experience the whole leg lift thing, but I have a chow/shepherd mix that is 10 that still squats. He's managed to avoid peeing on himself by sheer dumb luck and the fact that he's gotten much bigger.

Mine did the same. Hate to say it but he still does it! I dont know why, he doesnt like it but it just happens. Or when he pees it ends up running into his paws anyway. The thing I do is I leave a box of dog wipes by the door and wipe his paws when he comes in.

he's still just a puppy, so I'm assuming he doesn't hike his leg up to pee just yet, he still squats. he'll eventually learn to hike his leg up. as for the odor, just keep bathing his front paws. that's about the only thing that will keep the odor away. my dog used to do that too when he was a puppy, but he finally started to hike his hindleg up when he pee'd. I hope this helps answer your question.

Puppies first pee by sitting, when they grow up older they start peeing that way. The ovulation depends on the breed. There are also other stuff that can put an effect on the peeing style. If you castrate him when he is really slow, it is harder for him to act like a male. Some dogs has a sickness too. Some male dogs can imagine themselves as female

This happens a lot with male puppies. Unfortunately there's not really any way to stop it. Fortunately, he will stop on his own.

My Border Collie did it until he was about 7 months old. Then he was able to lift his leg, and aim a bit better. Until then I kept a wet cloth near the door.

Enjoy your pup!

He is so little he can't help it. Plus he is still a baby so he hasnt started to hike his leg yet that will come in time. My 7 month old shepherd doesn't hike his yet. I think the answer to your question is be patient.

Don't feel bad. I have a mini-daschund and she always pees on her back paws. You just have to live with it.

unfortunate for him, as I guess he would dislike it when this happens. All I can think of is just wash his feet until he grows out of this
