not many are that laid back! But each dog has its own personality. I am glad you had such a nice companion. While many have great, friendly tempraments, I would say it is unusula to have a laid back one.

It's not unheard of for a BC to be laid back, but it isn't all too common really. They really do have those high energy levels that you hear about! We have a 6 month BC and she's a great dog, if ever persistent! Unless she's having a rest, she is in constant need to be played with and stimulated. The really nice thing for us, is that working her with training is the same as play to her. She's good regardless of which means we use to expend the energy and stimulate her mentally.

I love this breed, but it is so true when they say it's just not a breed for the less active types. Sounds like you had a great dog, but a rare one!

I come from a family that has tons of border collies, and I don't think it's too rare to have a laid back border collie, but it also isn't too common either. All three of my grandparents border collies are very energetic, but mine is very mellow and is only really energetic when it comes to playing catch or food.

border collies need to be working maybe laid back to you is energetic to someone else. but all the border collies ive known have been pretty wild. was your dog older that may be why she was a little less energetic.

Depends.
If your dog was a conformation bred border collie, it would not be so unusual. Those dogs are being selected for their looks and not for working ability so many of those dogs are of low to average activity level.
If you had a working bred dog, this would be the exception rather than the norm. Working bred dogs have been bred to work all day with their bodies and minds. This means, for the average household, they are much too energetic.
Many rescue organizations rate their dogs to assign them to households that can handle their activity levels. This rescue, for example, http://www.mwbcr.org/ rates dogs as companion, active, very active or working to assign that dog to a level and find the appropriate home for the dog.

Collies are different from Border Collies.

If you had a BORDER Collie that was laid back: YES, that was highly unusual.

My baby was just great. Energetic whenever we took her out (park, ride, walk, etc) but in the house she was fantastic. Would not call her 'laid back', but very much a polite little lady.

ya I have never seen one (unless it was a mix) that was calm. They are very high energy and need a "job" to do and if you dont give them one they will try and find one themselves. Most turn to chasing cars and biting their tires b/c they are "herding" them. They may also try to herd children.

i have one and yes she's a little hyper but she is the sweetest dog that i have ever met... besides i also think how hyper they are or aren't depends on the environment they grow up in. but i love them, they aren't more hyper than dalmations or labs.
