In your own opinion, do you think putting your dog in a crate/kennel is ok when you aren't home or sleeping?

A little over a year ago I adopted a black lab mix puppy. He was timid and did not trust me. Over the past year he has opened up and is very loving. He has a great time running around on our 8 acres of land. However, recently he has been very aggressive towards visitors.

Twice this week I had a goup of people over for dinner. Both times he barked and growled so loud that the visitors got scared. Some of them wouldn't even get out of their cars.

He responds to my demands when it comes down to going outside, when I tell him to lie on his bed and time to eat. But when it comes to allowing guests to the house, he goes absolutly bazerk.

I can't put him in the backyard because I am on 8 acres of pastureland. The whole place is one giant backyard.

My 7 puppies just had their first vaccinations at 8 weeks. A breeder bought the shots and squeezed their neck and injected the 8 in 1. No rabies shot yet. Why is there a lump on every dog? Is this painful to my puppies?

I have come across an elderly man today with a dangerously aggressive dog that he could barely control. I thought the dog was going to attack my dog. My dog is only nine months old and very friendly. I am not saying elderly people do not deserve to have dogs but what do you think about them having a breed that is too strong for them to handle? I know of an elderly women who is lovely and so is her dog - However she is in her seventies and her dog is well above her waist in height. She cannot walk it at the moment because it threw her over and she is bandaged up. It's not my place to say what dog a person should have but how do YOU feel about this?

She is almost two and due to go into her 2nd heat. She is a small shih tzu, only 81/2 pounds, but healthy. I have discussed breeding her with my vet, and she is supportive. My question is, how do I go about finding a male and what should I expect to "pay"? Because of her small size, she is at a risk of having a C-section, is that my sole financial responsibilty, or is it reasonalbe to expect the males owners to contribute (especially if they are getting "pick of the litter"). What if she only has a litter of 1 or 2 and they get pick of the litter, and she has to have a c-section, then do his owners get the puppy and I get the bills? HELP!!!

My dog stays indoor all day except to use the bathroom. He's a 70lb chocolate lab. I give him a bath with doggie deoderant shampoo, but after 3-4 days, he stinks again. My female lab can go for weeks without a bath and she smells fine. Is there anything I can do? I've tried bath wipes and sprays, but nothing seems to work.

I just took home my pup and she is only 5 weeks old. The lady i got her from said she had been eating milk replacement mixed with puppy food for about a week now. Right now my pup seems ok but it seems like everytime i try to feed her she tries to suck on my fingers thinkin its her moms breast i think. She seems really healthy so far and when she is awake very playfull. Do u think i need to take her back to the lady so she can continue breastfeeding from the mommy or any suggestions on how to take better care of her? I never taken care of a puppy this young soo i get very worried that something might go wrong one day

He is 2 1/2 years old. He acts afraid almost when certain people come over. He wiggles around and lays on his back and occasionally pees. Do we just ignore him?

Last week I came home to find a dog sitting on my driveway, rumbling at me as I walked into the house I pretty much ignored it. The next day it was still there, and the next...3 days after it had shown up I decided to feed it even though it had a collar and I thought it -had- to belong to someone on my road. A week later, it's claimed me as it's Momma -_-

I know it's a Chihuahua mix of some sort, I'm just curious as to what else it's mixed with. I'm going to -try- and keep it, it's just up to my Mother whether or not she wants the goofy (but cute) thing.

The following link is to my photobucket, where I put the picture.

I have a 1 year old puppy. I have had him since he was 10 weeks old. He is so sweet and loving, but sometimes I wonder if it is fair to him to live in an apartment. I also have 2 cats that he gets along with.
He has fears of going outside, which he has had since I got him. So going for walks is sometimes hard. He seems really content in the apartment, but am I doing the right thing for him and his happiness.
Honest answers please. AND PLEASE, NO ONE JUST LOOKING FOR POINTS.

I have one dog who had parvo, and she was treated for it. My boyfriends Dog ( who has her shots) just gave birth to her puppies and I am scared that they are going to get Parvo because they cant get shots for 6 weeks ( Or so I've read) I also heard that as long as the are nursing, they are immune to it... I just dont know... I would think that it would be transmitted through the milk to the puppy but i know NOTHING about this... Please Help! I do not have the money to save another pup from parvo... ( it is very expensive!)

I have a minature poodle. He's around 11 years old, but since he was 4 or 5 he occasionally gets what my family and I call seizures. They usually happen in the winter although they have happened in the late fall and well into the spring. What happens: He is fine, then all of a sudden he wants to be right next to you and won't be more than an inch or two from you (he was weaned too early and has always been a "momma's boy" but not like this), then within 15 or 20 minutes he forceably stands, stiffens his legs, shakes uncontrolably (similar to when they're cold or scared but with more power, NOT like when they shake the water from their fur), and has a hard time breathing. He also makes himself walk away from us and alternates walking stiffly away from us and standing still, the whole time gasping for breath. He will allow you to pick him up, but only if you hold him gently and take him outside. If you try to cottle him he wiggles away and starts over. This will last anywhere from 2 - 6

He is usually a very good boy and goes to the patio but sometimes when he is alone, he pees in the livingroom or similar rooms, I have tried some sprays like "get off" that I bought in a pet's store.

My boxer (male, 9 months old) just started acting funny a couple of hours ago. I don't think it is anything medical/physical. My mother (who the dog usually adores, he is her baby) just moved in with us about 3 weeks ago. This morning he was acting fine, then started to look at the ceiling and get the shakes. My mother says it's because the spirit of her mother tagged along with her to this house, and now the dog is picking up on it. At first I thought "ok, whatever old woman" but now since she has said this.....the dog is trying to avoid her at all costs. This is the woman he is always around and sits with all day on the couch. I dismissed it at first, but it has been about 2 hours and it's not getting any better.

I can't believe I am saying this.....but could he be picking up on something. I also wondered about if she hurt him in some way, but my mother would never hurt any animal.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well not a real seizure but he gyrates his whole body, bites, claws, etc. whenever he even sees the nail clipper.

But the weird thing is, whenever my dad takes him to the office a secretary there clips his nails without a problem.

So how can I get him to stay calm and not be so afraid of nail clipping???????
