I have a 9yr old dauschand and I recently got a new pup(yorkie) I have them both in my room and my 9yr old dog who never pees in my room is now peeing everywhere! I even put him outside one whole day bcuz of what he did. The next day, he still continues! My pup goes outside to do the restroom. It should be the other way!I'm tired of coming into my room w/pee and I know it's the 9yr old because he hides. What can I do, to make him stop???

Your 9 year old dog is marking his territory. He is screaming out to say that he is the boss.

You are going to have to seriously discipline him. Rub his nose in the pea, tell him no, and spank him with a rolled up newpaper.

You need to be very firm and consistent with this. I would suggest that you leave him out doors when you are not home. Before you leave take him to a spot where is peed and tell him no before you put him out doors so that he sees this as punishment.

Finally, you are going to have to remove the pee smell or it may never stop.

I have to agree that your 9 yr old is just trying to mark your house as his territory. I would personally give it some time and see if it stops. If you see him do it then you can firmly tell him potty outside and then take him right outside. If you do not see him do it, then he will not have any idea why you are punishing him if you do so after the fact. Putting him outside all day; he does not know why you did that. As for the one post that says to rub his nose in the pee and to hit him with a newspaper, please never do that. A dog never needs to be physically abused.

Unfortunately this a behavior issue that punishing won't better. He's feeling threatened by the pup and like a typical new pet owner, you're probably paying a lot more attention to the puppy right now.

You have to reinforce to your 9 yr. old that he is still the king of the castle. He goes outside first. He gets fed first. He gets attention first and so on.

I really don't think there is anything you can do. I mean the 9yr old I'm guessing has been there for a while but the puppy just got there. I think the older dog is just trying to mark his territory.

Rubbing his nose in it and scolding him is the wrong thing to do. a dog forgets in about 1.5 seconds what he just did. Yelling and rubbing his nose in it gets you nowhere because he doesn't understand why you are doing it. Also, its just cruel.

He is acting out because you are probably paying more attention to the puppy which is natural. You just need to spend a little more one on one time with your older dog. I have an older dog and two younger ones. I made sure I spent lots of cuddling time with the older one when we got the puppies. I never had the problem like you are having.

I have a 7 year old dachsund and a new yorkie/shitzu mix and every since I got the yorkie/shitzu mix the dachsund has started peeing in the house.

I have tried everything.
Nothing seems to help

Please email me if you find something that works

It sounds like your daucschand is acting out! He may be upset that you now have a new puppy. It's probably his way of getting your attention and letting you know that he's not happy about the new addition to the family!

I would talk to a dog trainer about this behavior...it's most likely him expressioning his feelings and should be easily fixed with the right training.

Good luck!!!

The daushand is jealous of the puppy and is communicating his feelings by doing something he knows you don't like. Yorkies are so much sweeter that daushands, aren't they? You'll have to kennel the dauschand and talk to a pet trainer to see what your options are (personally, I'd get rid of the dauschand and keep the Yorkie.)

The older dog is marking his territory to let the pup know he is the alpha male. You can try the crate method. Kind of like trying to house break him again.

Your older dog is letting you know that she is upset that you brought another dog into the house you need to be patient and let the older dog know that you are not replacing him even a little extra attention might help also if you catch him rub his face in it and kick him out side eventually he will get the idea that the puppy isn't so bad.
