Are you useng Apple Cider Vinegar w/ mother from the health food store? My dog had both ears stinky and red and this cleared it up in a couple weeks.I used a clean wash cloth and swabbed both ears out 2x daily, then every 3rd day i put 2 drops w/ an eye dropper in each ear and massaged them and let her shake out the excess and she is fine now!!

Hi Ya
We have a chocolate lab and just brought him into the Vet this week for his thyroid check up test. While there we had the vet check his ears as he is always getting ear infections and they stink. :0(
The vet did mention a new treatment for what is actually a yeast infection in the dogs ear that actually lives just under the skin in the ear. Which normal medication may not get rid of. I do not remember the name of the medication they are now testing on this as we went with the normal ear medication that our lab gets as this seems to clear it up. Also there is no guarantee this other medication would work and it cost £80 (so about $150) for a 5 day treatment.
If you are concerned that nothing is working I would suggest taking your dog into the vet. It may be a simple ear medication drop that your lab needs.
Hope this helped. Good Luck.

Some dogs have this problem because some dogs have narrow ear canals & dont get enough air flow,,usually dogs with floppy ears. Dont use vinager!! Dont use anything but an ear cleaning solution made for dogs from your vet or the store. But,,if the ear wax is dark with a bad odor,,then it also needs the medicated ear drops from a vet.Follow directions. It doesnt always work the first time & it will usually come back. You need to do this on a regular basis.Good Luck.

Like everyone else said, back to the vet's you go!
He may have an infection, or if he's scratching a lot at his ears, mites. In any case, let the vet take a look and he'll probably recommend a prescription anti-fungal to help clear it all up.
Good luck!

My dog has the same problem. Take your dog back to the vet and tell the vet what's going on. The vet should give you some ear
medication.

Could be an infection. Don't put anything in the ears until you get him to the vet pronto.

You should take him back to the vet. He might have an infection on his ears and need an antibiotic.

What type of dog food do you feed? Many brands of dog food are more grain than anything else. Dog food with a high grain content can cause smelly ears (and stinky fur too).

There is a prescription ear cleaner that works! Ask your vet about it.
