He really does need to see the vet. Puppies go downhill all too fast when they have diarrhea..
Please take him to the vet...Until you can get him to the vet, only allow liquids, such as broth, pedialyte, or water..
If he 'can't hold it in', then it is a serious diarrhea, and he is in grave danger..
I doubt that it is 'food' related at all. More likely that the stresses of being away from you, lessened his immune response, and allowed a virus to attack..

Don't give the dog Pepto. Human drugs shouldn't be given to dogs without the OK from your vet. Go to the pet store and get Pet Pectilin. It's doggy kaopectate. Should work pretty quickly.
You can also boil white rice and beef for him to help get him regular again. 1 part rice to 1 part beef boiled. Add a bit of plain yogurt and mix it all up.
Also ask your friend who watched him specificaly what kind of cookie their child dropped. Raisins and chocolate are some of the many human foods that are poisonous to dogs so you want to make sure he's not eaten any of that.
Also is your dog up-to-date on all it's shots? How old is it? If it's a puppy it should see a vet right away.

Puppies always get the runs when there's a change in diet. My vet gave me a heartgard beef dog chew and said to give it to my pup that night. Next thing you know, when me and my pup is playing, his poop just starts falling out!!! I freaked out and was so worried so I called the emergency vet and was advised that I should boil some water and boil some chicken. First introduce him to the boiled rice, then slowly start adding in peices of the boiled chicken and this will take care of it in no time. You have to take away him Kibble when doing this and feed him small portions. Then in a day or so, start to slowly add his Kibble to the rice and chicken mixture. Then just the kibble and rice and last, the Kibble.
You need to monitor his behavior! This is very important as my Pom was just playing all over the place as if he didn't even realize anything was wrong. If your Yourkie displays signs of distress or cries (basically any sign of sickness) please take him to or call the vet immediately. If not, it's just the runs. Every dog is bound to get the runs some time so try not to be too worried. Just monitor him.
Also be sure to check his stool to make sure it's not bloody!! Does your friend have dogs? Did your pup get all of his vaccines? If not, this is especially important as he may be at risk for Parvo although that has an incubation period of 7 - 10 days before you notice any signs. Good luck to you.

If it is so bad he can't even hold it in you need to call the vet! A little diarrhea when being away from home for a while (due to getting nervous in a new surrounding) is normal (but should not last long). MAKE SURE HE IS DRINKING! Give him all the water he wants so he will not become dehydrated. TAKE AWAY HIS FOOD for about 24 hours. Food will only upset his stomach more. Pepto is ok but you need to call the vet for the right dosage (as it will very with the weight of the dog).
ANOTHER CONCERN IS PARVO! PARVO CAN BE DEADLY! YOU SHOULD TAKE HIM TO THE VET TO RULE THIS OUT! Signs of parvo are:
diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the stool and not eating or drinking. (when a dog has parvo their poo has a very strong sick smell!!!!! this smell is very distinct and VERY STRONG AND SMELLY, you won't be able to miss it. This smell may take a little while to show up though and you should not wait for the smell to appear.)
GOOD LUCK and PLEASE keep us posted :)

One of the reason your dog could have the runs its because you just change the food they were use to eating to something else. If this is the case this is normal. It takes about a week to two weeks sometimes for their stomach to settle in with the new food. Another reason could be that your over feeding your dog. There are some foods that real good with vitamins and minerals that you dont need to over feed them. I had that problem with my dog, she had the runs for a long period because I was feeding her too much. Check the feeding guidelines in the dog food bag. Don't give Pepto-Bismol, there is something similar for dogs.

Do not feed ANYTHING for 24 hours. Water only. Then, start feeding boiled hamburg and rice. MANY small meals the first day. The next day, if all is well, add some kibble to the rice. IF it is tolerated, add more kibble to the rice. Soon you are feeding kibble with just a little rice for several more days, until you are back to just kibble.
If diarrhea persists, go to the vet!!!!!!!
The fasting is important, as it resets the system and allows for a rest to the intestines.

Please be very careful what you feed The little guy
Most human medications are very dangerous or even fatal if given to dogs....But anti diarrhea med like Kaopectate,Imodium and Pepdobismal.are some of the few that can be used safely
Give him 10% the dosage recommended for a human or even better get a child formula.
Than wait 45 min and then you do not have to worry about a accident in the car on your way to the vet.

Depends on what kind of cookie it was. Chocalate is toxic to dogs. I suspect he ate something other than his food. Try adding some bulk to his diet, Pepto Bismol may help but I would call the vet first.

Wild canids are constantly in search of food for survival. Although you will never let your dog go hungry, his instinct to find food remains strong. So while it may be a nuisance when your dog is constantly pawing through garbage, sniffing at the table or trying to cadge a snack, keep in mind that he’s only following his survival instincts, and work to gently correct this behavior.
Some dogs are allowed to eat all day; that is, food is left in their bowls at all times. This constant availability of food can lead to an overweight dog. Treats and snacks add up in calories, too. To check your dog’s body condition, do the "rib test." Run your hands on either side of his body along his rib cage. You should be able to feel the outline of his ribs. With an overweight dog, you might not be able to make them out at all. On the other hand, if the ribs are too prominent, the dog is underweight. In either case, visit the vet to rule out any health problems: Dogs may gain or lose weight with illness. You may see other symptoms; for example, dogs suffering from kidney problems will also urinate and drink more, and may vomit and be depressed.
Your vet can recommend dietary modifications or special foods, and for an overweight dog, probably an exercise program as well. It’s vital to get a chubby pup back to a healthy weight, since overweight dogs are at risk of diabetes, heart problems and cancer, among other things. Keep track of all the extra bits of food given outside of mealtimes, and be more stingy in doling out treats, or ask your vet for ideas on healthier alternatives. Underweight dogs, too, are at a higher risk for all types of illness, due to their reduced ability to fight infection, decreased reserves of fat and energy, and poor healing ability. These dogs may need dietary supplements to bring them back into the pink of health.
