I have seen a very cute dog in my local pet shop. It's soooo adorable and i try to convince my parents to take it.But they say no because we live in an appartment and the dog will probably hate it here as the house isn't big.I really need a dog.Should i take one or it would suffer here? How can i convince my parents that i can take good care of it?

I am having a hard time with just a google search?? I just want him to be washed. Would a normal groomer do this? Is it safe to bring him to a pet store? Do I have to make an appointment?

I have a male blue and white rat terrier. I have been looking at breed standards and characteristics of these dogs and in a lot of places ( books, magazines, websites ) it says that a butterfly or dudley nose is a fault but I never see any pictures of what this looks like. Could someone please explain? Thanks!

he only gets water one time a day and it is not much b/c I just can't take the peeing anymore. It is too cold to leave him outside. Is it the age of the dog? We've gone thru many changes in the house, is he having a hard time adjusting to that? I CAN"T TAKE IT and am really trying not to get rid of him but this is ridiculous. HELP! anyone have suggestions?

My friend wants a small dog, and she's thinking about getting a Papillon. She has five kids. Two of them are younger than eight, one of them is ten, one is fourteen, and another is 21, but she's not there most of the time so doesn't really count. The three youngest ones are all boys and they play rough. I've read that it might not be good to get a Papillon if the family has little kids. I suggested a Lab, but like I said, she doesn't want a big dog. The fourteen year old really wants a dog. Should she get a Papillon or not?

I have been thinking about breeding my dogs for a few months now and I decided to go along with it. Problem is, I've got no idea how to go about it! I have two Labs and two GSDs. A 2 y/o black female Lab named Nina, 9 m/o choc. Lab named King. My GSDs are Tara: 3 year old female. Roo: 4 year old male. I also have two Chis but I decided not to breed as there are too many risks when breeding Chis. My dogs are not show dogs but they each have great personalities. Alll my dogs have a great temperament, have been thoroughly health checked by a vet, are up-to-date on flea and worming, vaccinations etc. and have great personality traits. I don't want to breed for money but simply because I love the breeds that I own (Lab, GSD & Chi). My dogs have very good bloodlines and are of showing/breeding quality - I just haven't have the time to show them. I know what a backyard breeder and if I breed my dogs, I don't want to become one as they have such a bad reputation for being bad animal owners.

My dog had fleas this summer and her skin became red and irritated. I've eliminated the flea problem and her skin condition improved.

Her skin seems to get red and irritated for a few days and then the redness subsides. She seems to have a week where her skin is pale and then another week where it seems irritated. I have another dog (her sister) and she has no problems with her skin at all.

What causes a dog to have skin irritation?

I have two dachshunds that our 18 months old. Four months ago we had a daughter, which has created some problems with one of our dogs. He is peeing everywhere. He was crate trained and we have not had problems like this before. Our vet suggested D.A.P. to calm his nerves, which helped for the last three months, but today he has peed 4 times in the house. I am going to lose my mind. The other dog is an angel compared to this one. We love him alot and just want to solve the problem and quickly. Help!!!

Does anyone know any good websites that teach you how to teach obedience to your Yorkie? Do you know any ways of doing this? She is 16 weeks old. The lady before me let her go outside with the older doggies, but after bringing her home, she was doing so well potty training to go outside, I decided not to crater train. Now, she has peed in a place where she is not being trained, and pooped right in front of the door she goes out.Why is she doing this? Should I continue to crate train her? She holds it all night already. Is it bad to give them table food sometimes? She has also started to bite some. What can I do?

On one hand it is known as man's best friend, but on the other it can be his worst nightmare. Recent events in the UK have shown unprovoked dog attacks, yet on a daily basis dogs attend to the blind and hard of hearing, search and rescue dogs risk their lives for those of humans, police and drug sniffer dogs provide an invaluable service. Their use as working animals is of no doubt. In today's work culture, does anyone have the time to devote to a dog as a pet anymore? With their heavy responsiblity is it now practical to own a dog as a pet? Are the few responsible dog owners who train, socialise and look after their dogs outnumbered by those who buy without thinking? Please share your views.

i have a labrador retriever X who just turned 15.
The vet says he is not in any pain its just that he has pressure on his lungs and has arthritis which hampers his mobility.
But he is continually finding it harder to stand up and get down,
When do you know that it is time? I would hate to be selfish, I cannot bear the thought of saying goodbye.
Also how is the best way to handle the situation with kids? I have a 9 and 7 year olds. Has anyone else gone through this with kids?
Do you tell the vet is coming to put your dog down and let them say goodbye or do you wait until they are not there and put him down so they do not fret about it?
I don't know how I am going to handle it.
If anyone has gone through this as well I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks
