Go to puppyfind.com and search the adds there, I will bet you find one cheaper. If you are planning on breeding/showing I suggest you buy the 1200 and up. If you just want a pet and this is the breed that fits you well then look around a while on the internet you will find one that a breeder is selling to a pet home only and they are cheaper.
**Price is a factor if you are just looking for a good pet, not showing or breeding. I would not pay 1200 for a pet that I did not show. I think max I would pay 500.00.

I bought a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and paid about that much for him. I didn't know anything about a fad but did some research and found out that breeders were hard to find in my area. That is probably contributing to the expense of the breed. Also, if you look into other breeds, the price varies greatly. An English Bulldog costs as much as $3000. The major health problem to look for in the Cavaliers is in the heart. The breed is susceptible to heart problems which can cost a lot of money with surgeries. Yes, they are wonderful, loving, and kind dogs, but make sure that, that dog is the right one for you and your family. Don't let the cute puppies fool you. Make sure this breed is the one for you. Good luck!!!

In complete honesty, in many areas, it is supply and demand. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are very 'in' right now, so one or two breeders decided to raise their prices for the pups due to that .. and the others in the area all had to raise their prices as well. Otherwise they get 'whats wrong with your dog, why is it so cheap'.
As well, look into the health problems of this breed. If they are known for having small litters, that will increase the price of the puppy. Maybe females wil be more expensive, as they may be hard to breed.
What about the vet costs in your area? Remember, REPUTABLE breeders are not in this for the money, they do this for the betterment of the breed, and make very little if any money off the sale of the puppies.
As for the suggestion that you try websites to find cheaper puppies, those will probably not be purebred, will probably be from Puppy Mills, or back yard breeders, with a number of health problems that would be incredibly costly to fix. It is a better investment to purchase your dog for the average reputalbe breeder price than going to a puppy mill, paying $700 less, but having to pay vet bills that will more-than0likely total more than that $700.

Dogs used primarily for show tend to be more expensive since they're more unique and have unspeakable aesthetic qualities. Just think how much better that Monet hanging next to your fireplace will look with a "Cavalier King Charles Spaniel" sitting next to it. Plus, as if that wasn't enough, it's got the word "KING" in its breed name. That's worth an extra $1000 right there!

'Something's in the name'... The race name alone sounds distinguished and reflects on the pet's owner. It might be one of the reasons why this dog is an accessory of choice for such a plethora of celebrities. Courtney Cox & David Arqutte, Brittany Murphy,Teri Hatcher, Liv Tyler, Clare Danes, Diane Sawyer... it just seems like everybody who's somebody has got one. It's a bonus that these dogs tend to be very affable and friendly.
To cut the long story short, the cavs are very in and that is reflected in the price. If you can afford one it's a way to affiliate with a long list of VIP's who's got one too and show it off in public. Pretty cool, n'est ce pas?

I have a beautiful king charles cavalier/pug mix that I adopted from a rescue. I would suggest you go onto petfinder.com and adopt before purchasing. You'll not only save a lot of money, but you'll also save a life. Good luck.

If they are purebred it will increase their price. Also, they are beautiful, have good personalities, and are very smart. This makes the "quality of dog" go up, allowing the price to increase.

Price should not be an option, you get a dog because you love it, not because it's cheap.
