IT'S 3 YEARS OLD!!!well i donno you can easily train a dog yourself when its like 3 or 4 months old but not years. I trained my 2 pups when they were 2 months old and my other pup i didn't train until 1 year old! so it never listened. Finally i was so desperate to get it trained, i got some trained proffesional guy to train my dog for me. Luckily the guy who trained the dog was one of my uncles friends so he gave us a 75% discount. You should do the same. You dont need to get a trained proffesional to do it. Just get any friendly dog trainer to do it.
Hope it works. Good Luck.

I have a 1 year , 2 year and 14 year old mini dachshunds, 2 girls and 1 boy. The 14 year old is totally trained but the younger ones are not 100% trained. I have always used the crate method, going out immediately when letting them out and praising. I spoke with a good trainer and she said that the best way is clicker training. I got some info from her, read up on it and started using it. It is working!! Why it works is beyond me but it is working. I am going to keep it up and keep my house accident free. A three year old dachshund can be trained but you have to be patient. They are very smart dogs but very stubborn and difficult to housebreak.

Three is very old to try to start housebreaking a dog. Crate training is one of the best ways to housetrain. You keep your dog in an appropriately sized crate while you are not at home so that he will not mess in the house. As soon as you come home, let him out immediately. Give him praise when he relieves himself outside and scold him (though not too harshly) when he relieves himself in the house.

I would look online to see if there is any literature from experts. Good luck with your dog!

Oh those wieners!! I have 3 mini dachsies-2 girls and 1 boy. The girls do fairly well going outside, but every now and then they do leave me a "present" or two! Some dachsies do have housebreaking problems and no two are alike. Stubborn little creatures, aren't they?!
Does your dachsie go outside sometimes and sometimes indoors or just indoors? Is it number 1 or 2 or both?
One suggestion that I have used is putting the dachsies in their crates.. Always have your baby in his crate when you leave the house and then let him out when you get home.

they are very hard to house train, i would use the crate when not at home. they suffer from small dog syndrome( Similar to small male syndrome)they'll mark there territory when you aren't at home and someone rings your doorbell or pulls in your driveway
good luck and becareful of there backs..
