My dog had fleas this summer and her skin became red and irritated. I've eliminated the flea problem and her skin condition improved.

Her skin seems to get red and irritated for a few days and then the redness subsides. She seems to have a week where her skin is pale and then another week where it seems irritated. I have another dog (her sister) and she has no problems with her skin at all.

What causes a dog to have skin irritation?

I have a Weimaraner and one day i noticed that her belly was red i took her to the vet and found out that she has allergies. The Vet gave me some spray that i spray on her belly when it gets red. They also gave me some pills to give her. i noticed that the pills they gave me are just like the people allergy pills. you can buy them at any walmart or store i get the off brand and it helps her a lot. but i would first take your dog to the vet and see what they say and if it is allergies there are other things you can get (not from the vet) that are a lot cheaper. =) good luck.

It is probably flea dermatitis. Basically, your dog is allergic to the fleas. If you eliminate the flea problem by treating your house and putting a medicine like Frontline on your dog, you should not have a problem. The annoying thing about flea dermatitis is that it only takes 1 flea to cause the redness and itching. My friend's dog had a particularly bad case of flea allergy that resulted in a bacterial infection as well. After they got the Frontline on him, he was fine.

Good Luck!

allergies may the culprit you can try children's Benadryl dose it by half depending on the size of the dog, so if the dog is a big dog then give what the dose says according to the dose chart on the pamphlet or box.

it could be hot spots. thats cuased by leaving water on the dogs skin too much or she could be licking it to much they prolly have some ointment or cream at your local petsmart. if that doesnt work take her to the vet because it could be serious.
