he only gets water one time a day and it is not much b/c I just can't take the peeing anymore. It is too cold to leave him outside. Is it the age of the dog? We've gone thru many changes in the house, is he having a hard time adjusting to that? I CAN"T TAKE IT and am really trying not to get rid of him but this is ridiculous. HELP! anyone have suggestions?

ok, first off, thanks for the HELPFUL answers. As for the useless remarks, come walk a day in my shoes and perhaps you can have the right to make them comments that you have. I have a full time job, two young children, a house/dog/family business to run while my HUSBAND is currently in IRAQ so therefore, I do what I can WHICH IS WALK MY DOG and do the best that I CAN. This is my first pet and yes although he is 10 I am still not all that familiar with the things I should do for him. I do not WITHHOLD water from him, he gets it in the morning or at night. He still pees all day long so therefore he is not dehydrated or he wouldn't go. Thought this was a board for sensible answers not those that sit home all day with nothing to do. But thanks!

C'mon AJ - he's getting on in years!! His kidneys are probably not functioning the way they should - and STOP withholding water from him - that's just plain cruel. You really should take him to the vet and get him checked out; may be a simple remedy for the constant urination. If his breath smells somewhat like urine, it is his kidneys. Please check with the vet and get him some meds. Patience AJ, patience - he's old!

You would definatly want to get your dog checked out by a vet just to rule out any medical problems.
As for the actual peeing inside the house, you can put out puppy pads (which are generally available at most pet stores), or newspaper and train your dog to go on that area only. Also use a lot of positive reinforcement especially when they pee outside. A treat, and a lot of enthusiasm will let the dog know that whatever they just did is REALLY good.
And ignore them when they do business in the house, or put them out in the backyard directly after.
I hope these suggestions help, but make sure to check with the vet to make sure there are no problems there.

You really have to watch him, when he starts circling and sniffing around he is getting ready to pee. Take him out immediately. Also the smell has gone into your carpet, if you are in a new house it could mean that another animal has left his scent there and now he is trying to take over. Steam clean and steam clean some more, you may have to replace carpet and pad.

You're dehydrating your dog to get him to stop peeing? Do you know that is considered animal cruelty and in most areas is a jailable offense?
Your dog probably has some kind of bladder problem, have you taken him to the vet? I bet not.
Man, You really don't deserve to be alive and breathing.

I would make a trip to the vet. Could be a UTI (urinary tract infection) The vet will do tests and then you can medicate for it. UTI often make them pee allot. especially if you notice its not allot of pee or it dribbles out all The time or if there in any kind of pain.

Take him to the vet.
If something is wrong, great, fix it.
If something is not wrong, then next time you catch him peeing,
YELL at him and put his nose into the pee. Let him know that it is NOT okay with you that he does this. Dogs can be very sensitive to voice change and usually understand what 'yelling' means.
