I just moved from Dallas to Chicago and the weather here is obviously much colder. I like to take my dog for a walk each night, it's between 11 and 23 degrees outside. We usually walk for about 50 minutes. I'm bundled up and warm. What about my dog? Is he okay for a walk of this length and in this temp?

Due to severe asthma, I am unable to walk my dog. It is a toy mutt (10 lbs.). I've heard the smaller dogs don't need much exercise and are fine in the house. However, I'm worried about her getting enough. Is it unfair to keep her if I can't walk her? My yard is not fenced, but I can put her on a tie out.

We had him at the vet and she checked him for fleas etc. He is clean. He typically knaws at his back legs. Do I need to rub him down with something that tastes terrible? Then he can't groom.

I have noticed a small (about the size of a pea) knick on my dogs head about 3 weeks ago. At first, I thought one of the cats got her. Now, the cut part is healed but she still has a white spot where normally black fur should have grown in. Then a few days ago, I noticed it was thinning around the edges a bit, and the fur around her left eye is thinning as well. It looks just like dry skin underneath - and yes, I am taking her to the vet. The earliest they could get her in was tomorrow morning - But in the mean time... any ideas what it could be?

Ever since I was 13 I wanted a puppy, preferably a chihuahua or other small dog, butt my mom has always refused to let me get one, because she says we have enough animals already (I have a cat, a husky, and my mom has another cat) But now I'm turning 16 soon and am wondering if I it would be appropriate to ask for a puppy again. I am responible, I have a job, I pay for my cell phone bill, I get straight A's but my mom wont budge about the puppy. I would even pay for the puppy, for my birthdy I would just ask for permission to get the puppy. I think its a better deal then asking for a car but what do you think? Is it appropriate to ask for a puppy for my b-day? and how can I convince my mom to allow me to get a puppy?
Thanks

A starved chiwawa came to my house 2 days ago.His back bone, butt bone and ribs are showing.Im gonna keep the dog but can not take it to the vet for 2 days.I know people gonna say take it to the vet today but my choice is to keep the dog and feed it and keep it hyderated and take it to the vet in 2 days or throw it back out the door.Well I cant do that so the vet will wait 2 days.My question is what is the best dog food I can feed this little guy till I get him to the vet.He loves come and get it but is there another food that will help him put the weigh on faster? Ok I asked my question now I have a statement. For all of you jerks who gets a puppy because it is so cute are idiots.Stop and think about how big the dog will get.How you will train it.Think of the cost of vet bills. My neighborhood is full of neglected dogs. Some starving, beaten, sick and homeless.Do not ever get a puppy just because it is cute.If you can not keep the pup take it to a shelter. There is no kill shelters.

We have an indoor lab that is shedding horribly. We have ordered the Furminator system and are waiting for it but we wanted to supplement her diet with some fish oil to help her coat and hopefully her shedding. Is it ok to give her human grade cod liver oil or omega 3 soft gels? If so, how much would be ok? She is currently eating Purina Pro Plan large breed puppy food but I wonder if there is something missing in her diet. Also it was suggested on line to give labs sardines packed in oil but we don't feed her table food wouldn't this be a bad thing to start?

Why are some people so against feeding people food? If nayone has ever read dog food ingredients, i'm sure most of the stuff listed is what i would consider "people" food. What do you think they ate before dog food was invented. obviuosly I don't mean junk food, I don't beleive even people should eat that, but regular table scraps of veggies and meat wom't kill a dog I'm sure.

I feed him well and care for him .He is a street puppy . I have to keep him on leash as I live in a flat (on the 4th floor). When I'm at home I allow him to wander inside my apartment. Here in our country we have no such "Obedience Schools" and Trainers.I shall be thankful if any kind hearted dog lover could suggest some method .

I don't know what to do with this stinker!! I take her outside everymorning and try and get her to go no. 1 and no. 2 but all she does is play with the leash or pull on it like she's taking ME for a walk. When I bring her back inside, then she finds a spot to do her business. I feel like all I do is yell at her and smack her. I have the puppy pads but she doesn't use them she goes NEXT TO them. How do you get them to get it???

My 3 month old puppy, was going to the vet for the last time 6 days ago for his last set of shots. I noticed other time previous to that trip, he was starting to become more crazy in the car. I took him in my lap, and took a toy for him. Once i put my hand on him, he would bite bark and would show major agression. He tried to bite very very hard. Then once we got to the vet, he was my good little boy, on the ride back home, again the biting, it was terrible (he was in my lap during both trips), we got home and he acts as if nothing happend and all is well. So i came to the conclusion that he is not a car dog. Is that the case, he just has fear in the car? I decided next time he has to go into the car, he will be put in his crate, which he loves. will that help?

when i'm gone to work during the day my dogs are outside in the yard. they have a giant shed that is pretty much all theirs. i have dog beds and comforters for them to snuggle up in and it's quite cozy. the problem? they shred everything after a day or two. as much as i would love to be able to buy them new beds every two days, it's just not in the ole budget. i don't want to spray bitter apple or anything like that on the beds if it's gonna make them not want to lay on them anymore and it probably wouldn't deter them from shredding them anyway. and i give them each one or two rawhides every day so it's not for lack of chew stuff. when they come inside they don't shred our furniture or blankets so what gives?
