I believe poodles don't shed.

Don't buy a designer mixed breed dog like a labradoodle thinking that you are going to get the best of both breeds and not the worst. It's a complete toss up with each dog in the litter, despite what the breeder tries to tell you, they have no idea what traits the dog is going to grow up to have, and labs and goldens shed like crazy, so you won't be very happy if your expensive puppy starts shedding. Also, take the personality of the breed into consideration, just because a poodle doesn't shed, doesn't mean it's the right dog for your life style, you need to learn about energy level, temperment, health concerns, trainability etc ...

When in doubt, contact a local rescue, tell them what kind of dog you want, they'll keep their eyes open and let you know when they find the right one.

And just remember, no dog is hypoallergenic or completely shed free ... some shed a lot less and some produce a lot less dander, that's what you're looking for, good grooming will go a long way too.

All dogs shed, just some shed worse than others. If I were you, I would go with a Giant Schnauzer (the standards are not much smaller than the "normal" Schnauzer), Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier, or Airedale Terrier. You could also get a Poodle, but I am not very fond of them because of all of the grooming and the temperaments that they usually have. Please do not get any of the poodle mixes unless it comes from a shelter. They are just high priced mutts, and you usually do not get the best of both breeds (more often than not you get the worse). If you do not mind a little shedding, I would go with a Great Dane or Mastiff. They both shed a little, but it isn't that bad. Plus, they are really good dogs.

The standard poodle is a fairly large dog that does not shed. Also very intelligent and loyal. You can also look into a Standard Schnauzer. Again, a larger dog with less shedding tendencies. They both need to be groomed and clipped. (You don't have to do a prissy/show cut on the poodle, but you will have to trim it occasionally.)

There are a lot of dogs that do not shed. I have Westies and I am crazy about them. You do need to take into consideration your "lil one" however. How old? How well behaved, I mean would they hurt the animal without realizing it? How much guidance will you give your child? Any dog will nip if it is hurt. There is nothing better than a child with his or her beloved dog, but parents need to teach the child how to treat the dog. Go to the pound or look at some rescue groups. That is how I got my Westies. Good Luck!

ALL breeds, even the ones that are touted as non-shedding, are going to shed somewhat, just as you lose hairs from your head, dead hair IS going to come off a dog.

Breeds such as the Poodle and the Bichon Frise (not sure I spelled the last one right) are going to shed LESS, but there are no dogs that do not shed at all. And these breeds must be brushed daily to prevent matting of the hair.

Please don't buy a "Goldendoodle" or any other mixed breed that has recently been created in order to dupe the public into thinking that they are buying a "designer" dog, when really they're just buying a mixed breed for an exhorbidant price.
You can go to the pound & adopt a poodle or terrier. They come in sizes from toy (toy & mini poodle & cairn terrier) to large sized (standard poodle or airedale.
There are plenty of breeds out there that don't shed. Go to the www.akc.org & look at all of the terriers & you may just find one you like.

Poodles come in three sizes: small, medium and large. I've heard about schnauzers too, and they come in mini and regular. Trouble is: you need to have both kinds of dogs groomed to maintain their appearance. An ungroomed poodle looks like a ragged mop on four legs! But I don't think it needs to look like a show-dog, just have it trimmed up if you aren't in shows.
