Our 4-month old puppy eats acorns, and short of taping his snout shut, there's nothing we can do to stop him because we have 3 acres of oak trees. He has food available, and eats it when he's hungry, but he gnaws on acorns all the time and I'm pretty sure he's trying to eat them, shells and all. Have any of you had experience with this?

I have two dogs that are half Labrador and half Australian Shepherd, they are both so friendly and loveable and we adore them but when left in the house alone ,even for a short span of time, they chew everything in sight. We have to put them in when we leave sometimes because it is just too cold to leave them outside for extended periods. We try to take precautions so they won't chew everything but nothing is working. They have ruined our two couches and they have even ruined our door frames, window sils, furniture legs and a corner of the house outside. Does anyone have any solution to this problem that is literally eating us up? We love our dogs but we can't afford to replace anything at this time. Please help if you can, and thanks to all who write!

i work part time and me and others are in the house to keep him company most of the time. i don't want to take him to pet care or get a pet sitter, and I use the crate for short periods of time. i keep tv on for noise and provide him with fresh water toys and treats when im not there. what else can i do to make him feel good while im out of the house? ( to those who are going to criticise: yes, i do intend to keep my dog, he's a very happy pup and he's well cared for.)

Okay, so I have a almost one-year Rotty. He's really sweet and playful [as all dogs are]. He lives outside.

Well the thing is, he's been outside since he was big enough [just below the knee]. Since then he has still been very obediant and learns quickly. However, lately he's been barking at 3AM and just before 5AM. We are still confused as to how this has come up, and our neighbor has brought this issue up to us because they have a 20-month infant.

So will a firm "No" to him during those hours teach him not to bark? If not, then what else could be done?

Thanks.

I came home one evening and found an empty bag of Cocoa Dusted Truffles on the floor. I have 3 shih tzu, and a mixed breed larger size dog in the house. I don't know which one of them ate it and how much each one consumed. How much Theobromine is in one of these bags with a Net Wt. of 8oz/227g. Ingredients: sugar, vegtable oil (coconut & palm kernel), hydrogenated vegtable oil (coconut & palm kernel), low fat cocoa powder (processed with alkali), dairy whey powder, soy lecithin(as an emulsifier), vanilla (as a natural flavor). I've heard Hydrogen Peroxide will induce vomitt, but how much is appropriate for their size(13lbs,15lbs,17lbs, & 65lbs). Will they die???? Need Help!!!!!!!!! Thank You .... In Advance.

We have a bison frese dog that has to be the best natured dog going, but his only problem is! He lets out the most fearful screams if you so much as look at him the wrong way, last night I was cooking my wife’s and my selves dinner and the dog sat near me begging, I told him to go and get in his box and he let out the most horrendous stream of screams you could ever wish to hear, it was like some one had thrashed him and he carried on like this for some minutes. He is gradually getting
Worse with this behaviour and if he carries on some one will report us to the authorities.
We don’t wish to get rid of him but if he persists we will have no other recourse.
Any one have any suggestions on how to stop his screaming

Gizmo is a Imperial Shih tzu and Polly is a Maltese, they have lived together for 6 + years and just started this about 4 months ago. I've had to take polly to the vet bc Gizmo hurt her leg. Polly is my dog and Gizmo is my dad's dog. I think they're jealous of each other but I don't know what to do to stop them. I've tried yelling at them and giving them both whippings and put in their crates but when they get out they go right back at each other. Its getting so bad that I have to pick up Polly to take her from my room to outside to go to the bathroom so Giz won't attack her. Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

I have a Border Collie, just under a year old. I work full-time 9-5 Mon-Fri, usually the dog is left with a relative all day so he has company, is let outside and so on, I exercise him outside of work hours. My home situation is changing, and the dog will be on his own from 8am -5.30/6pm each day, he has a large room to roam in, access to food and water, has toys to keep him occupied, he is very well behaved and has never been destructive.. So my question is.. Is this fair on him? I don't think so but almost everyone I speak to says that as long as he has company the rest of the time then this will not be an issue but I am unsure... There is no-one else I know that can look after him during the day.

I have an appenzeller sennenhunde which is a swiss dog. She is 8 mths old and really to the point annoying now days. She has learn´t not to ruin things such as the clothes and she is always very good now, but she still sneaks on to the bed when my boyfriend and I are sleeping. She usually lays on me or takes my blanket and I end up having to move to the couch and sleeping there! We have kicked her off the bed so many times but nothing seems to work. What should we do? I beginning to be even more tired every day and don´t think I can handle this any more especially since we have a new puppy coming into the house on Friday. Please help.

We'll I got a little japanese chin a few days ago. She doesn't bark or cry (they are quiet dogs) she is very loving and likes to wag her tail and give me kisses, however, she sleeps a whole lot. I'm also having trouble getting her to eat food sometimes when I think she needs to eat. I think she might not like the food the previous owner gave me (she's 11 weeks old). Anyways, so I don't know if its because I'm tired and worried about her eye (she got scratched by another puppy a few days ago and I have med. to put in it to make it better) or if maybe I'm just not ready to have that responsibility. I'm in my mid-20's and live by myself, have pretty good hours at work off by noon every day. I just was wondering if the sleeping is normal for a puppy. I've never experienced one sleeping so much, not crying, or not really liking to play with toys. I've never had a chin before though. Also, how long does it usually take an eye to heal? She had an ulcer I believe.

I always bring bones home for my dogs, they love them. Well, tonight my boyfriend had a t-bone steak for dinner and we gave the bone to our rottwieler. She was so happy, but about thirty minutes after she was done she started salavating bad, and seemed to have an upset stomach. she was very lathargic, and just wanted to cuddle with me. It was very strange. Like I said she gets bones all the time like this and has never acted this way. I was wiping the streams of drewel off of her face. I know she didn't feel well because she was all over us trying to get comfortable. Have you ever herd of a beef bone affecting a dog like that before. I was thinking maybe she just ate to fast, but what about the drewling? and idea's? thanks

I have a friend who wants to adopt a female chihuahua. She tried the animal shelters but was told that they would only release "fixed" females. She would like to breed the female only once with the male she currently has. Anyway, I want to know of websites or any information on adopting a chihuahua. Anyone?
