I have a friend who wants to adopt a female chihuahua. She tried the animal shelters but was told that they would only release "fixed" females. She would like to breed the female only once with the male she currently has. Anyway, I want to know of websites or any information on adopting a chihuahua. Anyone?

Wow! The responses I've gotten so far are very direct, to-the-point, some may seem even harsh .... which is exactly what this situation called for. I REALLY appreciate the responders comments, suggestions, and points of view. I LOVE this site for it!

People who are adopting out an already rescued chi are not likely going to let anyone take home one to risk the breeding of more chi's that will need homes. Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds, your friend would like to "save" one dog who needs a home in order to reproduce more? And since they wont be registerd, whats the point? Is her stud a champion? Sounds to me like she thinks she can get a "cheap" female, and make some quick money.

I"m afraid that if she wants to adopt they will all have a fixed policy which is a good thing . If she wants one that is not fixed she will have to purchase from a breeder and I would not advise that as usually good breeders ,breed to benefit the breed you know to better it . Does her male conform to breed standards if not then I would discourage her breeding the animals . good luck .

If she wants to breed then she's pretty much out of luck getting a dog from a shelter, rescue, or reputable breeder. She would only be able to get one from someone who doesn't care about their dogs.
