I always bring bones home for my dogs, they love them. Well, tonight my boyfriend had a t-bone steak for dinner and we gave the bone to our rottwieler. She was so happy, but about thirty minutes after she was done she started salavating bad, and seemed to have an upset stomach. she was very lathargic, and just wanted to cuddle with me. It was very strange. Like I said she gets bones all the time like this and has never acted this way. I was wiping the streams of drewel off of her face. I know she didn't feel well because she was all over us trying to get comfortable. Have you ever herd of a beef bone affecting a dog like that before. I was thinking maybe she just ate to fast, but what about the drewling? and idea's? thanks

I guess is she continues in the morning, take her to the vet to make sure. I only give my Dogo the cow bones, the ones that are HUGE. She takes forever with it, several months. A bone is only for them to have to keep them busy, never to really eat. I hope she feels better in the morn.

NEVER EVER give dogs COOKED BONES they cant digest them. Cooked bones can scratch the animals insides causing bleeding the splinters can puncture the intestine or organs. You are probably aware of how clay is fired at high temperature to make it go hard like stone... well cooking has a similar effect on animal bones and they dont break down in the digestive system like a raw ones do.
Cooked meat/gristle etc is ok but not cooked bones.
Please keep an eye on your dog as although it is asleep it may have some damage to its stomach or intestine given the reaction you had described and the situation may worsen if there is a sharp bit of bone trying to pass through the intestine. Check the dogs gums now and them and if they get pale looking (anaemic) there may be internal bleeding which you will need to see the vet about. Similarly if the dogs poo gets black and tarry looking theres probably blood in it and you would also need to see the vet .

Cooked bones can splinter in the dogs digestive tract and stomach. It can be quite severe. It may be only a minor reaction with your dog, but if she doesnt improve, go see the vet. Other than that, feed something light like chicken and rice for the next day or two. Raw bones are ok, in fact they are great for your dogs teeth. Give her one of those next time, she will love it.

NEVER but NEVER give dogs cooked bones RAW is okay.
cooked bones can splinter very easily and cause all kinds of problems efither in the digestive tract, stomach or esophagus. My suggestion to you would be to take the dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY there could be an obstruction and can kill the dog.

Salivation could be caused by the bone being caught in her mouth and her not being able to swallow properly or the bone being caught in her throat. Either way, if she is not responding normally you should call the vet. A late night trip to the vet (even if it turns out to be nothing) is better than something more serious occurring.

NO BONES, EVER ! they can split, I gave my dog a steak bone once, she got a piece of it caught in the roof of her mouth between her teeth, I took it out, and no more bones, ESPECIALLY CHICKEN BONES, they are NEVER to be given to a dog. You should go to the vet. NO MORE BONES !

I'd take her to the vet quick. I heard of one woman whose dog died after being given a bone.

You're not supposed to give dogs real bones. The bones can split and cut their stomach. You should take her to the vet.
