Dry dogfood...Duhhhhhh!!!!

A good quality food will have meat as the first ingredient listed. Stay away from those foods which have corn, the dog doesn't digest it, it is just a filler.

All giant breeds should have a food which has between 12%-14% fat and 21%-24% protein. If you have a puppy, giant breeds should NEVER be fed puppy food. Puppy food is designed to promote rapid growth, which is not what you want. Your dog will grow to the size it is supposed to be, but you want it to grow slowly, so that the bones have time to develop to take the weight that will be put on them. Feeding puppy food to giant breeds will cause joint and bone problems.

Go to a pet or feed store and read the labels, bearing this in mind. A good food may be a bit more in price, but you won't have to feed as much of it, so it balances out in the end.

The food subject is a very contriversial subject, but a good quality food is the best. Canidae, solid gold, wellness, california natural, dick van pattens brands, innova are a few terrific dog foods. You want the saint on a very nutritional diet, not because they are big eaters because they are not. I feed my saint the raw diet, but the raw is not always the best to go with some people, so the foods i mentioned are good quality with all natural ingrediants that are good for your dog and NOT poisonous ingrediants.

Just keep in mind, it is best to feed a saint at least twice daily as they are prone to bloat and bloat KILLS.
Good luck with your saint.

You may want to try several brands to determine which one your dog looks and performs his best. But give each food at least 4 months to 6 months to really get a feel of the food affecting the dog.
Eukanuba is a great food, also Royal Canin, Solid Gold, Canidaie.
Use a high quality shampoo if you do the grooming, you can buy them at better pet stores.
Then, throughout the testing of the foods, keep everything else the same. For example, continue to take it for a walk every day, etc.
If you find a food you and your dog just love, then stop there. You don't have to keep trying foods if you find the one you love early on.
Good luck! I"m sure you will be needing LOTS of food!

Since St. Bernard's are such big dogs, they need to eat a good, high quality food that will make sure that their limbs and joints grown properly. So, I would suggest Nutro Max, Canidae, Wellness. They are all very good foods and will give your dog the high quality nutrients that it needs.

I would recommend a brand that has size-specific formulations of their foods, like Eukanuba. (Stay away from Iams, though) Precise, while more general, is a great food and I'd recommend giving it a try. Other good ones for any dog include: Lassie Natural Way, Nutro Ultra, and Nature's Recipe.

i feed my saint (and great dane and other various mastiff breeds) Pedigree Adult. it's a good quality food but won't break the bank. more economical to buy in larger bags (22lbs or 44 lbs) depending on how many dogs you have. i've fed Pedigree for years and every loves it. they are all in nice weight. i put a little very hot water on it just before feeding, let it set for 3-4 mins. and stir. it increases the flavor. and it's gone in a matter of minutes. and strange but true all of my very large dogs like the smaller sized meal.... go figure. i guess little dogs must like the large bites size!
if your saint is young, just make sure the protein is less than 24% for the first 2 years. high protein in young large breed dogs hurts bone development.
