Could these two things be related?

I have only been doing this once a day for two days. Right now I am giving him less than a teaspoon, thinking that would be less of a shock to his system since he has never had it before.

Cod liver oil is excellent for his skin and coat, but an overdose does cause diarrhea. He only needs a teaspoonful a day. Lots of dogs like the taste, so pouring it over his food is fine. It may be easier to give in capsule form, and less messy.

My dogs get cod liver (or any fish liver) oil in the winter, when they are most prone to dry skin and coats from central heating. Thay have lovely shiny coats that gleam in the sun.

Check with the vet to see if there is another cause for the diarrhea, and in the meantime, just add a bit of plain salad oil to his food.

Cod Liver Oil In French

Depends on the size of the cod liver oil pill and the size of your pup. It can give the pup very bad stomach issues and cause diarrhea. Pups don't need this kind of supplement at all. If your looking to improve her coat then just a teaspoon of olive oil on it's food 2 times a week would be a much better solution than than cod liver oil.

Stop the cod liver oil--it's not agreeing with his system. There is a fine product on the market--you can get it at any pet store called Line-A-Tone
(Pronounced line-a-tone for dogs). You just put a couple of squirts (comes in a pump-style bottle) on his food. Also, if you have a little left over bacon grease, this also helps with the skin and the shininess of the dogs coat--but don't give him a lot of it--just a teaspoon or so works, and dogs love it.

It's not Cod Liver Oil it's FISH Oil, available in a capsule just about everywhere. Yes, this could be what's causing his diarhea. Stop the Cod Liver Oil and see if his diarhea gets any better. If it doesn't, you can offer things like Chicken and/or Brown Rice combo (chicken is easy to digest, brown rice acts as an anti-diarheal). If you want to try it again, purchase Fish Oil Capsules instead or put one raw egg his food daily.

Depends -- when did you start adding the supplement and when did the diarrhea start?

Not sure what you are feeding your dog, but a high quality dog food should be sufficient. If you want to add something beneficial to his diet for a healthy coat and skin, try fish oil supplements (omega 3 fatty acids) .

But, if you change the food to a high quality food, you will find an all round healthier dog. No by-products, no corn, soy, BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin preservatives, etc. You will also be feeding less because he will be getting a healthier, more filling food full of better nutrients.

Perhaps too much cod liver oil !!!
Actually, try cooked fish mix with vegi, this would be much better.

1. Is what he eats - food or vitamins
and
2. Out side where you can use some olive oil on his coat.

Yes. You should cut back on the oil right away!! Ask your vet what the right dosage is for adding the oil to his food, or if there's something else that you should be using.

We feed our bully Royal Canin Bulldog 24 formula - it's designed specifically for bulldogs and their needs - he does GREAT on it! Good luck!

I would certainly think so. And that is a serious problem for animals. Dehydration can result very quickly. Go to a pet store and ask them for some shiny coat advice.
