You hear stories all the time about amazing pets. I have a German Shepherd, and am in the process of getting a Pomeranian. My Shepherd LOVES every person, animal, etc. The most amazing thing, besides trying to protect me at 6 weeks old from a stranger walking near us, was actually growl and keep a very close eye on two separate people (on separate occassions) that came in our home. As I said, he loves EVERYONE, and we couldn't figure this one out. He was under a year old at the time, but come to find out, after questioning both, one had marijuana in his pocket, the other had just smoked it. Needless to say, they aren't allowed around anymore, mainly because the Shepherd doesn't like the smells! He hasn't growled at anyone since!

We have a female bassett hound named Daphne, and are getting a male today. I thought maybe Niles, or Fred and we are having trouble deciding. What do you think, or know any more cute names for a bassett?

We got a 10 month old puppy at the shelter a few weeks ago and we are trying to get him fully potty trained. We tried him in a crate at night and he cried for two weeks hysterically. He repeatedly messed his crate and ate the remains. Now we gate him in a small bathroom and the hysterical crying/barking has stopped, but he still messes on the floor and eats the remains once per night. He is fine all day, but at night he still loses control. How can I help him get through this and, if nothing else, keep him from eating it?

I love my doggy, and usually this isnt a problem, but not long after he turned 1, he red rockets all the time! i get so grossed out. i know its a natural thing for him, but it went from being a once a month thing to like 8 plus times a day and its always around me. is it normal for them to red rocket that often? on a scared dog owners point of view, im sort of afraid to spend much time around him because as soon as he sees me, out it comes. up until now i thought he saw me more as a mother since i saved him from the pound as a pup, but now...just ewwww. he is fixed too, so thats another worry- is it normal for them to red rocket when they are fixed? i love my dog and i want him to be happy and healthy.

She seems like she's looking for something. She digs her nails into the carpet like its dirt. I take her outside about 3 times a day so she can dig outside, but she still does it. Why?

Our beloved dog we thought was lost over 3 months ago and I just found out that my upstairs neighbor's daughter gave him to a friend of hers. How do I approach my neighbor her mother about this. We aren't close but we are civil to one another becuse we share the house. I'm upset as well as my children whom her daughter gives a ride to school to my older daughter. It's just how can you look your neighbor in the face when you know they are looking for their dog in all the time you knew where their dog was in the first place?

I was able to find a store that sells the Innova brand of food and purchased some of that. I am very pleased with the ingredients and will start him transitioning over to that today. This is the place where I buy the food: http://completepetmart.com/dogorcatvendors.html I read that food should be alternated every few months, what would be the next best brand after Innova that they offer?

Also, what is the difference between Innova and Innova Evo?

Second, we just got some snow, so the ground is a little slick. When he goes out before bed I have to carry him out the front because there is a very large step that he can't get up (he just had surgery) so I am concerned about falling. I know that sal can be dangerous for dogs though, and he eats everything, even though I try to stop him. What brand should I be looking for? I had Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Tractor Supply and Ace to look for it, so that would be only options that I could get now, when I need it.

Thanks

I read the question just posted and now I'm curious. How many dogs have you owned and tell me all about them! I'll start off...

I've owned 4 dogs total.

Tasha -- She was a Boxer - Great Dane mix. She lived to be 15 almost 16 years old. Cancer, paralysed from waste down. She was very enthusiastic.

Cupcake -- 8 years old. A miniature long-haired dachshund. Ate anti-freeze poured on our lawn by some punk. More of a laid-back dog.

Buffy -- She was a cocker spaniel. She lived to be 15 yrs. old. Cancer in her brain. She calmed down in her later years but was a very playful pooch.

Lucky - 4 years old. Rottweiler Dalmatian mix. Still alive and very healthy! The most hyperactive large dog you've ever seen!

Please elaborate! Thanks! :D

Hi there, my 5 month baby girl who is perfect except, that she is overweight, acts like we are starving her always, eats her food in 15 seconds, and eats our other dogs feces, and mud! We have tried deter pills for our other dog, it didn't "deter her". The vet had us switch her food from Iams small/toy breed puppy, to Regular Iams puppy. Hasn't seemed to help. She is happy, active, has a beautiful coat, just this weird hunger and eating fixation. Any insight, or a different food reccomendation? We have never had a dog do this.
Thank You,
Jena

Hi, I have named so many animals (helping others) that I'm out of names myself. This is a sweet, affectionate little puppy, his colors are silver, grey, and brown and he is very fluffy. Any ideas?

They both lived alone for 6 years - now we're married and living in a new house for both of them. We've been living here 7 months now,and they STILL don't get along! The husky just wants to play, the cat growls because she is scared, which makes the husky freak out and go after her. It just keeps escalating from there!

I have a friend whos entire family is big on badass dogs. Thing is, they seldom feed them and not a damned one of them is fixed, male or female. The females they don't breed intentionally, and they're mutts to begin with and are pumping out at least a litter of "free to wherever" pups every year. That's per female, and I don't know anymore how many they have.

They've also got a huge rottie, obviously PB that's kept outside on a ten foot chain. Never gets off the chain because he's "too big". He's a little over two years old and still doesn't want to kill, but with those owners he will soon enough. Their pit is in the same boat with a slightly longer chain, only he doesn't get anything more than food and water because he's "mean" They're planning on studding them both, the pit will be making fighting pits.

Is this grounds for being reported? Can it be done annonomously?

Why do people not relize that dogs and not toys? That they are over populated? That they should never be spayed? Heck spaying is cheaper then a litter of puppies. I got my dog from a person who said: I can't get my dog fixed because she keeps having puppies!
Ugh, dog can breed twice a year... I wonder if you ever noticed this? And for goodness sakes, get your dogs fixed.

We recently had to give one of our dogs away. We had 3 and they were a pretty tight group. Now one of my other dogs seems like she's can't handle being alone anywhere. If I don't let her in my room at night, she stands at the door and barks uncontrollably. She was never like that until we gave the other dog away. She follows me everywhere! The bathroom, the kitchen, where ever I am. I don't mind the attention. I love my pets, it just seems a little odd. Is she suffering from separation anxiety, maybe?
