Our beloved dog we thought was lost over 3 months ago and I just found out that my upstairs neighbor's daughter gave him to a friend of hers. How do I approach my neighbor her mother about this. We aren't close but we are civil to one another becuse we share the house. I'm upset as well as my children whom her daughter gives a ride to school to my older daughter. It's just how can you look your neighbor in the face when you know they are looking for their dog in all the time you knew where their dog was in the first place?

sorry to hear about that. im kinda going thought a similar thing right now. i just moved to a new neighborhood 3 weeks ago and my new neighbor witnessed 2 teenage boys walk off with my purebred pit bull.. my nieghbor came over shortly after and casually mentioned it. im positive the 2 boys live somewhere in my nieghborhood but none of my nieghbors will tell me exactly where they live of what their names are. i have even had the police try to talk to my neighbors to get answers and they still give very sketchy and vague answers. the police told me that this is not the first time this has happened, and that there has been several raids in the area for pit bull fighting rings.

my suggestion is that since you know what happened to your dog, call the police to your house and make a report.
stealing someones dog is illegal, and in some states is taken very seriously.
if faced with legal repercussions, your neighbor may be inclined to return to dog to you.
and if i were you, i'd keep a close eye on your neighbor... because someone who would steal a families pet defiinitly cannot be trusted.

You need to just go up to her, tell her that you know they stole the dog and gave it away. Demand that you get the dog back. Neighbor or not, these people stole from you! Who knows what else they may steal. They are thieves. If it was me, I would move. I wouldn't live in the house with thieves and I would call the police and make a report of the stolen dog if you don't get it back. If you own the house, kick them out!

I also would make sure my daughter had another ride to school. I just don't trust people who steal and would not trust them with my daughter's life.

Confront the woman. Demand your dog back, and if she doesn't produce it, call the police--that is considered theft of your property according to the law. What she did was wrong, but were you doing anything wrong/illegal, like letting the dog run loose, causing an annoyance to your neighbors and/or exposing your dog to possibly being hit by a car? Good luck, hope it all works out for the best for all concerned.

Hi,
First, look for any pictures you may have of the dog in your house, with your kids, with you. Get any vet records you may have, and then knock on your neighbor's door and tell her that your dog has been missing for over 3 months and show her the vet records and pictures. Ask her outright if she or her daughter have seen the dog and if they deny it, tell them you are pretty sure that the dog your neighbor's daughter's friend has is yours. If she denies it again, you will have to get the friend who has the dog to look at your records and pictures and explain the situation and if you get nowhere with the friend, you need to contact the police. If it were my dog, I would not hesitate.
Best of luck with this trying situation.

the important thing is to get back the dog. if you think she will be receptive just explain the situation and ask for help in returning the dog. if you believe she wont be agreeable or had a part in it at all .gather any evidence you have as to your ownership of the dog and call the police, make a complaint, let them deal with her.good luck.

wow that's crazy. OK what you have to do is really find out when and to whom did the girl give your dog to. Once you have that proof then go to the girl's parents and tell them what their kid did. if they dont help you get your dog back . Then that's when you have to call the cops, because that is theft!

ohh, i would be pis*ed off. I would demand to get your dog back. And if he was that much of a value to your family, take it to small claims court.
Also, is your dog microchipped, liscensed. If so, this would help to get "your" dog back with this kind of proof as to who owned the dog originally.
If not, this will be really hard to do. Sorry about that:(

I would be sooooooooo mad. I would go talk to the mother right away and tell her exactly what you found out and how. If she isn't willing to get the dog back or reimburse you take it to small claims court.

If this woman has any decency, she will get your dog back for you. It isn't your fault and if worse comes to worse, be ready to take her to civil court.

Call the police. If she knew the dog was yours she stole your dog.
