I was able to find a store that sells the Innova brand of food and purchased some of that. I am very pleased with the ingredients and will start him transitioning over to that today. This is the place where I buy the food: http://completepetmart.com/dogorcatvendors.html I read that food should be alternated every few months, what would be the next best brand after Innova that they offer?

Also, what is the difference between Innova and Innova Evo?

Second, we just got some snow, so the ground is a little slick. When he goes out before bed I have to carry him out the front because there is a very large step that he can't get up (he just had surgery) so I am concerned about falling. I know that sal can be dangerous for dogs though, and he eats everything, even though I try to stop him. What brand should I be looking for? I had Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Tractor Supply and Ace to look for it, so that would be only options that I could get now, when I need it.

Thanks

Innova IS a great brand. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. As for the salt, it's not just the eating of. Salt burns dogs pads. Go to a pet food store. Check out what they have in the way of ice melts that are safe for your dog to walk on.

Well, about the salt, I really have no idea for that. But with the food.. I know. An extremely good brand of dog food.. all natural, no preservatives, 100% organic, is Life's Abundance. You should look it up and watch the video about it.

Instead of salt for the snow I'd use alternatives such as wood ashes or sawdust. If you must use salt, check the ingredients and make sure it is just common table salt (sodium chloride) and no extras.
Salt is harmful to plants, wildlife, groundwater, pets, etc, this is why it is better to use cinders or sawdust when feasible.

if you find a food that your dog eats well do not change it to another food just feed that food. the only reason to change food is if the vet tells you to for the health of the dog. If the dog gets salt on its feet just wash the feet off in warm water.
