Actually,
Ask at the pet store, they usually will sell the bottles and all suppplies needed for bottle feeding. On a quick note, I forget the exact name of the product for dogs but is NOT KMR. KMR stands for KITTEN milk replacement. I think the dog one is DMR or PMR. You can ask at the store. I would call a store in your area and ask about it and make sure they have it all in stock before you make the trip, it's a waste of a trip if they don't have what you need. I know they have to be fed every 4-5 hours even through the night so Make sure you can really take on this responsibility before you start. If you start and then realise you can't keep up with it, you will really have a problem as once the pup realises it can get more milk easier from a bottle that you provide it will be very difficult to get him to try to go back to his mom. There is a product called petromalt which you can also give to help add additional needed calories and they usually love it and lick it right off your finger(it is a paste). If you will be completely caring for this little one you may also have ot stimulate it in order for it to poop in the beginning. Take a warm wet paper towel and wipe the butt area, it will simulate the mom's lick there. Do this about 15-20 after you feed it and after a couple of seconds to up to a minutes or so, depends on how bad it has to go, it should go to the bathroom. You can actually use this to your benefit by training the pup at this time where to go. Whereever you are going to want this pup to "go" put him in that place every time you stimulate his bowels and it wont take long when he is going on his own to go to that spot automatically. You have a house broken pup. good luck to you and feel free to E-mail me with any other questions you may have.

My dog, Zoey is the runt of her litter. The breeder that saved her took Zoey's mother's place and treated her like a human baby. Zoey was carried around constantly and socialized in that way to assure that she would learn to bond. Zoey thrived and turned into a great (even though she is puny) dog. There is a milk substitute sold in pet stores that might help supplement the caloric supply that the puppy needs. The vet might also have it on hand. Watch out for infections early on. Good luck! You are doing a great thing!

go to the tractor supply store or a grain store in your area.
purchase the powered milk, called mother's milk, and get a couple of nursing bottles, follow the mixing directions that are on the bag. i would feed the little one at least every 2 hours.
god bless

Talk to a vet and get the name of a good 'puppy formula' and get a 'puppy bottle' to feed your baby. DO NOT GIVE IT ANY COWS MILK! That will cause the baby SEVERE and PAINFUL digestive problems. Do NOT let the vet tell you to 'just let the baby die' ... and if necessary, DEMAND (but nicely, please) to know the name of a good 'formula' and if necessary you can buy a 'doll bottle' that you can fill and warm under 'hot' running water. And good luck!

Get ready for alot of bonding, lol.I have a runt also and I bottle fed him took him everywheres with me.I am laughing now as he is 5 yrs old I carried him in my purse too.But you'll need to go to your vet or any good pet shop and they can help you pick out a milk for your dog, bottle too.Just to get ya going.but don't be surprised if he/she don't won't to go back.Alot of the time is easier to just feed the puppy then make it fight to get close to the feeding bag.

On the farm we had a lot of baby kittens abandoned by the mother and tried to hand raise them and they died. We found out why later, and think it can work with puppies, their mothers licked them to stimulate them to void. Not doing so they will so I would wet, with warm water, a soft towell and wipe them in that area until they did their job. They lived.

that runt also needs Mom still too...help her to nurse, and supplement with puppy formula until it is big enough to latch on by itself. It also needs to be with Mom so she learns how to be a dog from her. The Mom also cleans it by licking, and this stimulates the puppies digestive tract.
