well the only thing you ca do is train them!!! when you are walking them and you see them leaning their head downward u need to say "focus " and pull the leash...but just a little snug! it will take a while to get the dog to focus but if you keep doing it like everyday you will see that you dont have to say focus anymore!

Just keep walking. Ignor the behaviour altogether. They will feel the tug on their leashes, and catch up with you. Eventually they will quit trying.
We used to have this problem with our little schnauzer and that is what we did.
Two really good places for ideas and help for your dogs are: The Whole Dog Journal, a monthly guide to natural dog care and training. It is 5.95 a month. It's a magazine that they send monthly. In the January 2007 issue there are articles on training your dog.
The second is:Dog Watch. It is published by Cornell University Colledge of Veterinary medicine. Subscriptions are 39 / 49 per year (depending on where you live). You can email them at dogwatcheditor@hotmail.com

Get into a routine; when I take my two dogs out for one of their two 30-45 min. walks I ALLOW them to release themselves prior to our walk. After that it's a brisk walk; you want to get from point "A" to point "B" w/o interruption. You never see a pack of Wolves falling behind, their main objective is finding the next meal. My 8 year old Lab/Chow walks with a leash on our way out. Returning home he is off leash and walks by my side all the way home. Some say "marking" is part of being a dog, which is true but, an "Alpha" dog should be the only dog leaving a "mark." Guess who the "Alpha" dog is? My 9 month old Springer is learning by the example the older dog is setting. Eventually both should be able to walk off leash. Good luck with your Terriers.

What works for me is the countdown: We stop to sniff I say: "One, two, three" slowly, giving them a chance to pee if they need to, then pull them along. There are a couple of very special trees on our walk and I let them take their time in these places. They honor the One, two, three thing, knowing there is going to be a time when they get to relax and investigate. This way, I get some exercise and they get to have fun, too.

I thought the whole point of walking your dog is to give the dog a chance to sniff at everything, look at stuff, and pee? Am I wrong?

GET ALL THREE OF THEM A HALTI HEAD COLLAR, IT FITS KINDA LIKE A HORSE BRIDLE EXCEPT THERE IS NO BIT THAT GOES IN THEIR MOUTHS, OF COURSE AND UNLIKE THE GENTLE LEADER, IT HAS A SAFETY STRAP THAT CONNECTS TO THEIR REGULAR COLLAR-JUST IN CASE THE SOMEHOW MANAGE TO GET IT OFF THEIR HEAD, THEY ARE STILL ATTACHED TO THEIR COLLAR AND LEASH-THE HALTI GIVES YOU TOTAL CONTROL OF WHERE THEIR HEADS GO--I HAVE ONE FOR MY BEAGLE CUZ BEAGLE'S ARE JUST A "NOSE, WITH 4 FEET"-HA HA
PS. PEEING ON EVERTHING IS THE DOGS WAY OF "MARKING" THEIR TERRITORY-IT'S PERFECTLY NATURAL BUT ANNOYING WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO TAKE THEM FOR A WALK. GOOD LUCK

obedience classes. also, assert your dominance, let them know that you won't allow it (this doesn't not mean physical harm or abuse)
