Banning pit-bull-type dogs is not the answer ["Rein them in before they attack again," editorial, Nov. 9]. In 1991 when the United Kingdom banned pit bulls it was found that even after the pit bull population steeply declined, the number dog bite incidents remained the same. Why? The number of irresponsible dog owners stayed the same. The fact is that dog bites rarely happen randomly to people walking down the street. Most dog bites (77 percent) happen to a family member or a friend. The majority of bites are perpetrated by un-neutered male dogs.

Is she going to be really relaxed when we bring her home? She's pretty wild all the time so i'm just wondering whether or not this surgery will calm her down a bit?

She has no other symptoms that anything could be wrong. She has ate, drank, had bowl movements and urinated. She hasn't been exposed to cleaning products or anything harmful. And it's just clear salivation. I've checked her teeth, they look fine. No abrasions to her gums or tongue. About once every 15 to 30 minutes I have to whipe the strings hanging from her mouth. Oh and she's a 10 lb. Rat Terrier.

Our 8 mo. old husky puppy can't stand being locked in her crate while we're gone (there's no way we could leave her loose at this point). We've tried everything: putting toys and towels in there, putting treats inside it, EVERYTHING! She digs and digs and digs, whines and howls incessently, and jumps around (which moves her crate) and rips up anything that is dangling near her crate out of frustration. We've even locked her up in it during the day when we're here in order to get her "used to" her crate. She HATES it and she's damaging the house. Please help!

What is the matter with you? Do you not realize what you are doing? Are you that selfish that you would rather earn money off of breeding mutts on purpose than helping to curb our pet over-population crises? You are NOT creating new breeds...you are just making a profit out of a mutt with a cutesy name. As for doodles, they are NOT hypoallergenic!! All dogs have dander and all dogs shed, even if just a little bit. As the President of a rescue organization, I am here to tell you that you who breed these dogs disgust us and make us sick! You need to stop your selfish, foolish acts!
Are you aware that, on average, 2,009 dogs are euthanized in American shelters every day? And yes, some of those are mixed breeds just like the ones you create!!

How do you live with yourself?
I am appalled, and all need to know the truth behind designer dogs.

Wreckless breeding is irresponsible and heartless.

After moving into a new house my dog started getting spots on her belly. She is an indoor puppy. I had her fixed about 4 weeks ago and had the vet look at them since there seemed to be more and she was loosing hair. The doctor gave me a lime sulfer dip and said it will dissappear. It has been 4 weeks and it isn't getting any better! Is there something I can do to my house or to my puppy to get rid of ringworm??

How do we fix the problem? She will lay in the waste. She doesn't care. She loves to be groomed and when that happens she is good for a while then starts up again. I think she knows when she is bad. Could she be doing this for spite?

I work with pets every day and am constantly amazed at the stupidity of people that have absolutely no education on any breed but still consider themselves qualified to to be breeders. most of them are completely oblivious to even the breed they own. they bring poor quality pets with numerous health and stature defects and have no idea why their puppies are sub par. my question is why would any person go blindly into a situation that could result in loss of a living being that with a bit of reading could be avoided?

shakes sometimes. He's a JRT mix (my first time owning a small breed). He has a clean bill of health and we don't hit him or yell at him. He quivers sometimes though. I've asked other people with different kinds of small breeds and they say it's just something small dogs do.

We don't know if he was abused because we adopted him from Rover Rescue. He was only a year old when we got him and he had spent 4 months in a shelter followed by 1 month in a foster home prior to us adopting him.

It doesn't seem to happen at any particular times. He could be outside in the yard, laying on the couch, in bed with us at night. It doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason.

I haven't asked my vet yet, but I intend to.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
