I want to get my two year old a puppy for christmas . It needs to be small and great w/ kids and other animals ( we have a 3 yr lab and a cat), She is wonderful with the animals ( the cat taught her not to be rough). What would be a good tiny breed.?

Ok so I didn't want to offend anyone with my question but I'm really wondering ... I've got a shishtzu that's about 2 years old, in the past three months, every now and then after he pees, he scrapes the ground right in front of where he went with his hind feet -- why does he do this? I'm assuming it's some sort of instinctual thing, but is there a reason for this behavior?

I have a 8 week old puppy and also a 6 year old dog. We have been trying to crate train the puppy to sleep in the crate at night. Our older dog loves her "home". We thought of putting both crates next to eachother, in hope the puppy would not feel left alone. However, she will only sleep when I'm in the room with her. If I decide to let her sleep in the bed with us until she is a little older, will I be creating a larger problem? Will my older dog be jealous? Both crates are in a separate bedroom from ours. Would it help to move the crates into our bedroom at night? I can only get about 3 hours of sleep at a time right now based upon the puppies schedule. I understand having to let her outside to go potty, the problem isn't that. The problem is the hour it takes to get her to calm down in the crate, only to be awoke by her cries when she discovers I have left the room. Any suggestions? Or any recommendations on good literature for crate training? This is our first time having to do it.

Ok, I understand this is, mostly, personal preferance, but I would like input none the less. I know there are some very knowledgable people perusing this section. = )

Phenotypically, I prefer: Northern breeds(Malamute, Sibes), GSD(Same reason as the northern breeds, the "wolfish" look), Great Danes, and Rat and Smooth Fox Terriers.

My lifestyle is highly adaptable. I'm 20, and I'm getting ready to move out. I have adequate space RIGHT NOW for any of those breeds, however I intend to move North soon, as I have always perfered colder climates. I enjoy space and plan to own a decent amount of land.

I am willing and capable of giving any breed all the walks they can possibly tolerate, and all the affection and company they happen to desire.

I have read and understand a general, novice amount about the breeds I have mentioned, however don't hesitate to provide ANY information or suggestions, or breeds I may have overlooked. Any discussion that leads to a happy me and dog = good

The practice of breeding wolfdogs isn't new, but it's new enough and not popular enough to support mass puppy milling, furthermore the natural resilience required to live in the wild wolves posses seems to add weight to this hypothesis. Hip Dysplasia is very rare, though present, in wild wolves, however it is common in some domestic dogs. I also can't imagine that a mix from a reputable breeder would be afflicted with the mental and physical detriments brought on from millers and back yard breeders, so the question I pose, I think, is a valid inquiry.

Is it possible that wolfdogs represent a healthier, more resilient animal?

he helped himself from the garbage bin
i found him chewing on used kleenex as usual, (which i dont like him to do) but this time there was gum in it and i didnt see him literally chewing on the gum, but the gum i remember from the gargbage bin wasnt there anymore either, so im pretty sure he chewed on it or ate it or something, so anyway, is this bad?

My dog is 7 years old, we got him from the spca a while back and just lately he seems to pee on places he's slept before. He's walked quite regularly and still does that. Just tonight he wanted on my moms bed and started peeing just as he got up there. That's the second time he's done that. He tends to do that on clothes as well. I live in an apartment and am not sure how to train him. He's half Pekinese, half cocker spaniel.

I have a 13 yr old kelpie cross which has a tumor and very sick. The vet knows about this. Is it possible to call the vet to come and put it to sleep? It is also too large to bury at home, what can i do? Can all of this be done while i'm at work as i don't want to see the suffering. How much does everything cost?
