Naming a dog can be a bit of a challenge. You want the name to have some kind of meaning, not just play on a trait that the dog displays. I named my newest puppy Karma, simply because "karma always comes back to you." As far as naming a female chocolate lab goes, I would play around an interesting name such as Ecstasia, or you could go with a wordplay on the name and color, such as Chocolati (one of my favourite Biscotti flavors). It all depends on what you think sounds good and what you want your dog to be known for. Some other suggestions are:
1.Calypso
2. Tomoyo
3. Kohaku (it means "amber" in Japanese)
4. Angel
5. Hazel

Are you sure you're getting the dog for your son?
A chocolate labrador too ..... not a mongrel? We all know pedigrees are more prone to infections etc....and if your son is 19 month old then by the time he can take HIS dog for a walk the novelty will have worn off... i wouldn't even think a child of 5 or 6 could take such a dog a walk!!!!...An apt name would be something like "cocoa" which would also be easier for your son to learn to say....and wouldn't sound cissy as they grew up together. But buying a pup for a baby would mean by the time your son is in high school or whatever the inevitable passing of cocoa would break his young heart....so please give your idea a LOT of thought...for the dog's sake too.
why not get him a kitten instead? they dont need to be taken for a walk. . .

I know that dogs listen very well the sound "r", this is why most dog names include this letter in them. Therefore, I have to propose a name from the Greek mythology. A name that is short, with a nice sound and contains "r". The name is Ira. Ira was the queen of the 12 Gods in Ancient Greece. Christmas present suits with queen name! Happy holidays.

Dogs usually respond to short names better than long ones. I bet your son can name the pup even at his young age. Let them play together for a while and see what your son calls her. Offer up a couple of choices and see which one your son reacts to or which one he can say. Give it a few days, the right name will come to you.
