could be a number of things, i find it extremely cruel to lock an animal in Cage to begin with. how would you like it if that was done to you every night. i know it's only a dog, but they love to be out doors not in doors. specially a big dog like a lab. i have a couple of large breed dogs (one of them it's a lab). my back yard it's fence and my dogs have full use of the garage night and day. so they can go in and out as they please into the back yard.

you say she has never done this before.... if that is the case you need to check her over. something is amiss....... You can start by checking around her neck for lumps and if she can swallow. then work your way down and lightly squeeze her stomach. does she wince? if so theres the problem.. has she been drinking a lot of water? is she spayed? if she is drinking a lot of water and is intact. these could be symptoms of a uterine infection. Check her back end. does anything look swollen. If so could be the infection or she could be in heat. Also she may have a bladder infection. If you don't notice any discharge... or any other problem. she is pooping and peeing... and her gums are pink and she isn't running a fever.... then she may be anxious about something else. You can try giving her a benadryl. that will calm her down. If her odd behavior continues the next day then i would get her to the vet as something is wrong..

Sounds like she wants to be with you - is that possible? I dont understand why ppl get animals and then lock them outside. Arent they companions? Let her in!! Let her find a place to sleep and feel secure in your house.

I have three big dogs five cats three gerbils and a rabbit. If a dog constantly wants to do something at nighttime, they are probably getting too much sleep in the daytime.Outside there might be a stray something that it smells(dogs have very keen noses) and wants to protect it's stuff,it is like saying that i don't want my brother to get my candy so I am going to eat it first!

I don't know. I've never kept any of my dogs in the house. I always provide a nice place for them to stay outside. Hint Hint.

i agree with the above, she is probley sleeping too much in the day. labs are extreamly active and intelligent and need mental stimulation. taking your dog on a daily walk does wonders. they learn quickly who is the master because you are leading them, and it also exersizes them and gets them in touch with the outside world. too many people never expose their dog to what lies beyond the front door. with the crating situation, teach her that that is his place at night. when she is crying, dont go to her, it ill only teach him that you will come every time he cries and she will do it even more. start putting her in her crate early tomarrow night so she will tire her self out early so you can get some rest.

Maybe this behavior is an exceptional phenomena. But it she carries on, you should take her to the vet, so he will know better.

Let her sleep with you. Maybe she is lonely.
