Because they think they can make money at it by selling the puppies. They don't give a damn about the animals, just about the cash.

Not all breeders are bad. I for one went into breeding the Shih Tzu because I saved one from a breeder farm. They were going to put her to sleep because she was two old to have more puppies. I couldn't stand by and let a dog die like that so I took her , brought her home got her spayed and medical treatment. I got to keep her for two years before her little heart gave out from so much breeding this little one did. I decided then I would go into breeding these wonderful dogs so I can control how they are breed and when they are breed. When I sale a puppie I am very careful who I sale it to and I keep close taps on each and everyone of them for the rest of their lives. For any reason they can't no longer keep the dog no matter what age it comes back to me. I breed my dogs once a year and only after they are check and in really good health from my vet. As for the money alot of this money goes back into helping the unwanted dogs in memory of my little one that was breed to death. I have shut down three breeder farms and I will continue to help dogs in need. So please don't judge all breeders in a harsh way. I have seen really bad ones and there are ways to know the good one from the bad ones. I have read every Shih Tzu books I can get my hands on. If I don't know the answer from a question someone ask me about this breed then I will find the answer for them. Well this is from a breeder, take it for what it is worth. We are all not bad.

People just do not realize what all is invovled in breeding. They think hey you put 2 dogs together, let nature take its course and 2 months later you have some cute little puppies. It is only when the time is drawing near that they wonder what they have got themselves into. It is much the same with having kids. People should learn as much as they can about pregnancy and raising kids before jumping into it.

I agree with you 100%. I am a horse person and I see it a LOT in the horse world as well. People just don't do research before breeding. Then they wonder why they get an offspring that has conformational defects. It's infuriating.
If I had a dollar for every idiot that bred because their animal was "sweet" or "pretty" or "because they want one JUST LIKE HER", etc. I would be rich.

Well, it seems to me that the more people that venture into breeding puppies, the less demand there will be on the cruel puppy mills. Whether or not a new breeder knows 100% of what they should, they don't have any cruel intentions like the puppy mills. The newborns are cared for and loved until they get to their new homes. Bottom line?? I don't see the big deal.

$$$$ Breeding done correctly and with concern for the dogs is seldom profitable. Only people breeding inappropriately make money.
Only about 30% of all puppies born find permanent homes.

Laze and cheap. They do not want to do the studying needed to breed a dog. They also do not want to pay a vet to test their dogs and puppies for needed health issues. It took me two months of study and 450 in vet bills, the woman who wanted to use my male paid for part of the tests, and another month to make sure the puppies when they came would go to good homes, The ones not used as service dogs. Finding homes for the puppies was important becasue they are pit bulls. Luckly this town as never wanted to ban them. They understand its the owners not the dogs.

I think some dont realize how much there is to know and the complications or the proper procedures. So many feel its easy and nature takes its course but in reality there are so many precautions and preventatives to be taken to allow nature to take its course. I think they feel its easier then it really is..its alot of time and energy. Its like having your own kid. Some think they know but in reality they have no clue til they are confronted w/an issue. And of course there are the ones that dont care and just want the money and dont realize how much it really does end up costing.

Your guess is as good as mine. People are truly ignorant and do not realize the harm they are doing to our out of control pet over-population crises. They need to visit a shelter and see all the dogs that would love a home.
Fact:
On average, American shelters euthanize 2,009 dogs each and every day. Even more cats!!
Do not even get me started on Designer Dogs.

If I knew I could stop it. People make me sick. The pain they cause to these wonderful animals amazes me. How can anyone do what people do? No dog should be bred till they are a champion. That's my firm opinion and I'm sticking by it..!
