Well, if you scroll down and read my other question about being lonely when I move out from my parent's house which relates to this question... maybe I should just get a dog? I have three dogs here at my parents house and they are good company. I love them, they are so sweet. My friend whose going to be my roommate doesn't mind pets, she's even said to bring one of them w/ me when I move in with her. Hmm... you think it will cause trouble... I know how to potty train real good. But, then again, I'm a college student and rarely have any time...

If they were bred for hunting, don't you think the ears would get caught in things?

I have a 6 week old Schnauzer with what I believe to be an umbilical hernia about the size of small grape. It seems to not cause any pain ect.... How old does my puppy have to be to get it repaired? I am taking the puppy to the vet this week to get his shots....can I get it done then, or does anything even have to be done? The breeder did disclose the problem to me, but she herself has no experiece in dealing with hernias.
Thanks

I have 2 black labs that I have had for 7 years. At our old house, we let them sleep in the living room and chew on firelogs. Now taht we've moved, they destroy my room. We have nowhere else to put them. The neighbors complain if we put them outside, and we have no extra rooms. So far they have destroyed over $9,000 worth of things. I can't train them, they're too old. Chewy toys don't work becasue they destroy them too quickly. I don't want to give them away but I think I might have to because I dont' know what else to do. They only chew things when I'm not around, so when I come in to see the damage and punish them, they have no idea what they did wrong. Some advice please?

A puppy my family recently purchased will be here at the end of the month. When I asked the breeder about the puppy's food, he responded that he would not be providing the food fed to the puppy in the shipping. If I wanted to feed the puppy another brand of food, that I should use Kaolin-pectin to avoid diarrhea the puppy will probably have from the quick transition of the food. After reading some articles, it seems that it may have a side effect on humans, but not on dogs.

The puppy is currently being fed MAX® LARGE BREED PUPPY (Apparently, even though the puppy will not grow to be a large breed, it has: "a lot of vitamins & antioxidants that help support the immune system.") I'd like to switch the puppy to Innova Puppy Dry.

Is it okay to use kaolin pectin for my 2 month old future puppy? For people who have used it on their dogs, does it have side effects? Should I just purchase the same brand the puppy is eating now and slowly mix it in from there?

Relevant answers please.

She licks it so much that it's gotten rusty from licking it so much. Does she like the taste of rust or is she licking what she smells in the ductwork. I've had a problem with roof rats in the past? Could she be smelling their presents they left behind in the ducts? And is licking rusty metal unhealthy for a dog?

I have a 2 year old Boxer/Rottwieller dog who only bites people who he doesn't know. He is fine with my two children ages 3 and 6. He is fine with anyone that he knows. But when someone comes to the house that he doesn't know he will bite them, unless we put him outside or upstairs with the door closed. We try to keep the door locked when he is inside but sometimes people don't knock and walk right in and he will bite them . He has only bit one person, but that is one too many. I can't put him to sleep that to me is just not right. He is like one of my children. Please help cause i just don't know what to do? Thank you

I want to keep her but her age is about 8 years old. I don't want to put her down. Most dogs this age might not live very long or walk really good.

I am very interesting in becoming a parent to a lovely toy fox terrier. Pleasem if anyone knows of a breeder close to the tri-state area, or any breeder at all, let me know. If they have a website that would be great, send me the link.

She is stinky, scratching constantly, & hair is falling out on her back. I can not figure out what is causing it. Took her to the vet the last time it happened & she said that she had a yeast infection & a bacterial infection that was causing the smell. She gave us prednisone & antibiotics which cured it as long as she was on it. She's been off for about a week now & it is coming back.
What could be causing this to happen? Why is she itching herself to the point of infection like that? I have to stop what is causing it or it is just going to keep coming back.
Anyone have any ideas or experience with this type of thing?
This is a very sweet dog & we all really like her but I am almost to my witts end with this stuff.
