I want to keep her but her age is about 8 years old. I don't want to put her down. Most dogs this age might not live very long or walk really good.

If you would like to have this dog, and can give her a clean place to stay with good food, then by all means keep her. She could easily have 5-7 more years in her, and dogs get by with 3 legs pretty well in most cases.

I bet you get real attached and have a great pet for quite a while.

3 legged dogs do very well and can live normal long lives. We have rescued many dogs that had to have a leg removed for medical reasons. Eight is not an old dog and if she is doing ok otherwise then being 3 legged should not be a issue.

Someone at sometime spent big bucks for her surgery! I would post a ad in local paper, just don't give all the facts--like the 3 leg situation. Just say "found doberman". That way some jerk looking for a free doby won't try to claim. Her owner may be looking as they cared enough to have surgery instead of putting her down.

If no one claims and you really can't keep her then please go to petfinders.org and look for a doby rescue in your area or State. But I think you will find she does fine with 3 legs and it is bothering you more than it is her!! All of our 3 legged dogs are still going strong with their families. She was special to someone at one time. And a rescued dog will show you a loyalty and love you just won't believe.

That is not always true. Dogs who are around 8 are still very active and lively for about another 7 years. Having 3 legs would not hinder walking at all. Sure the dog may be a little more clumsy some times but that is understandable when missing a leg! If you decide to keep the dog, just make sure it has all its shots and you are good to go!

You have a big decision on your hands.I think with the proper care and love she will live for a good many more years and animals adapt alot better than people do.The 3 legged thing will never be normal but she will adjust. And furthermore, she will probably make a great companion, just give her a chance.Of all the animals I have had the ones I found and adopted have made the most loving wonderful companions. If you decide not to keep her try finding a no kill shelter. She will make someone a great friend, trust me!!!!

There are many dogs that thrive with just 3 legs. Tripods are stable. I knew a 3 legged dog named Peg Leg. Perhaps there is a good reason you acquired this dog. The dog is lucky to find you or is it that you are lucky to find this dog? Have a great holiday. If the vet you saw was leaning towards putting the dog down, find a more compassionate vet. Good luck.

I say yes because if u do u will of found a new friend and it would be the best thing that ever happened to it. Bless u for bringing that dog into the vet. If u didn't it might of been out there all alone and in danger.

I would suggest having her temperment tested before you make any final decisions on keeping her. If all is good then I say keep her. Dogs get along well with just three legs and most will live long healthy lives.

It takes a special person to look after a dog.Really think long and hard cause that dog is counting on you.I had a dog with three legs before and he was the best day i ever had he lived until he was 15years old.He was the most loving dog and the most protecting dog i ever had.If you could make his days on earth very happy wouldn;t that make you feel good.I know the dog would love you very much too.Good luck and i hope you keep him.Don;t think about how much longer he is going to live. With alot of love and special care he or she could live a long life.Oh and my dog with three legs used to run all the time.Good luck and may god bless you!!
