Well, if you scroll down and read my other question about being lonely when I move out from my parent's house which relates to this question... maybe I should just get a dog? I have three dogs here at my parents house and they are good company. I love them, they are so sweet. My friend whose going to be my roommate doesn't mind pets, she's even said to bring one of them w/ me when I move in with her. Hmm... you think it will cause trouble... I know how to potty train real good. But, then again, I'm a college student and rarely have any time...

Getting a Dog is a good idea if where your moving allows it and you can afford it but you should probably wait until you move in. See how things are and adopt this dog 'with' your roommate. Even if you pick out the dog and take care of it she will feel much better and there will not be resentment if this was something she was involved in. Go to the shelter together and ask her what she thinks about names. Living with roommates can be tricky so be sensitive.

I think dogs are great company, but if you havnt got the time for one then its not fair on the dog. Maybe you should try adopting one that is a bit older and doesnt rewuire as much attention as a little puppy does. Either way having a dog is a really good thing.

Well, if your a college girl, then you should be too busy concentrating on you study and goals. How should i put this; I was at a friends house just talking when his dog came by and took a nasty smelly crap right in front of us. My friend got up and scooped it right up while talking to us about a subject. He was the only one in the room who didn't seem to mind the 800lbs. guerrilla scent in the air. Not very classy. Very nasty. Not everyone should take your crap, just because you can. Have respect for others.

I wouldn't suggest that. I would maybe have the dog visit a time or two so the dog can get to know your roommate, and thusly "test the waters". If she continues to tell you that it is a good idea, then go for it.

I am a college student also, and I have 3 dogs. I am lucky enough to not have to work, but if I did I don't think it would be fair to them to leave them in a crate all day.

It would not be fair to the dog if you are going to be on campus alot. Maybe do some part time volunteer work with the ASPCA or other animal rescue organization.

The day your roommate comes home to a poop pile in her bedroom and her History thesis torn up is the day she loses a roommate and a dog.

If you don't have any time then it's not fair to get a dog to make you feel better when your going to neglect him. Make a friend don't buy a pet.
