I am in a beginner class and my instructor is big on clicker training which I hate. My dog is wonderful in obedience and she learned everything with simple praise. She says that I shouldn't give the "down" command when my dog jumps on the table. Rather, I should wait until she goes down on her own (which could take forever!) and then "Click". Aren't you allowed to say "Down" during competitive agility? She said that it's easier if the dog learns to automatically go down on the table and it saves time if she's way ahead of me. I think she'll learn to automatically go down no matter how I train her. My dog will only walk on the dog walk and teeter totter if I lay out treats ahead of her. I did this to encourage her at first. She was scared. Now, she'll only move if the treats are layed out. She learned to manipulalte me. She's preety clever! How do I get her to move without treats? I also want to know how to get my dog to move fast. She's a young Sheltie (cont'd)

I know that they should be atleast a year because of the dangers of a dog injuring itself jumping while its bones are still developing. However, I was wondering what the rules are about exactly how old it must be to enter?

My 7 month old Sheltie puppy is too skinny because she only will eat a bit of dog food. We have experimented with different brands both hard and soft. She is in perfect health but is too skinny. She will eat any human food. She got spoiled because we give her tiny pieces of hot dogs or Cheerios as rewards for training. My bf also gave her table scraps which he now stopped. She basically found out that people food is much better than dog food. Is there anything I can mix in with her soft food (we give her Science Diet puppy)? I was thinking cheese or ground beef. It has to be something that really blends in well with the food so she can't just pick it out. I know she needs to eat some dog food for nutrional reasons especially since she's a growing puppy. Any other suggestions? She is super finicky.

We adopted him about 4 months ago along with another, younger dog. He was extrememly well behaved, and would "hold it" as long as he had to. Once (before we got him) he held it for 36 hours...poor thing. Anyway, a few weeks ago we gave away the other dog. They hated each other, so we didn't think it would but Maverick (the 3-yr-old). But ever since then, he keeps peeing and pooping in the same corner of our dining room, no matter how often we take him outside. Like we'll take him out, then half an hour later we'll go to the store and come home, he's "gone" on the floor. We think it's because we took away the other dog. But we don't know how to stop this behavior. Any ideas?

I just adopted an eight week old jack russell lab mix, we are trying to crate train him. He will go in and out of his crate all day long, but at night time he will just bark all night. I called the shelter where wehad adopted hi m to ask what to do and the lady said that I should makehim really tired before I put him in the crate at night, and I did that. Last night he went to bed then my 1 and a half year old woke up crying, which she does a lot. The dog woke up and started barking, so I took him out, now its two in the morning and my daughter of course has to come with me because she will not stay in the house. I take him back and he starts barking again so I tried covering him with a blanket and moving him into another room , he barked all night I need help what do I do from here

My 11 month old Blue Heeler/Lab/? mix licks - herself and people - until you think her tounge is going to fall off. I know why she licks herself. But why does she lick family members (even the "alpha" dog) so much? She even licks the cats - I'm surprised she doesn't have hairballs. Fortunately, she will stop when told. But she will do it non-stop if you let her. What do you think?

O.k., I live in a third world island in the middle of no where. My dog is an island mutt who I saved from a life of hunger and abuse. I have to leave her for three weeks. The only option I have is to leave her on my good sized safe porch, and have a teenager come over every day to take care of her but not spend the night. there are no kennels, or trustworthy housesitters. If I take her off the island, I will not be able to get her back in the country. Will she be o.k.? Any other ideas? Remember, I don't have many normal options.

I live on a Pacific island, and have to go off for three weeks. my dog will be kept on my fairly large balcony. She will be checked on everyday and played with, but she will spend the majority of the time by herself. Is this going to traumatize her? I don't know what else to do. there are not really any other options because of the country that I live in.

I've been harassed by a neighbor for 3 years now. He's constantly calling animal control saying my dog is on his property. The don't even ask questions and write up tickets in the $100 increments for Roaming etc. They have no proof that it's my dog, yet, the ticket is still issued????? Is this legal???

A) I HAVE taken her to the vet for the same problem (uch mucus and she sounds congested and hacks and such) but this was when she was just 3 wks. old. it cleared up for the most part, but has returned full force.
B) I am not going to go into my financial situation, but AT THE CURRENT TIME I can not afford to take her to the vet again. (my "baby" is more important than any holiday....so believe me when I say that if there were any money AT ALL, it would go to the vet for her treatment) I have just enough after her food to go and buy some children's benedryl (which is ok to give to dogs). I am not an aweful person for keeping her (if it were my own child, I wouldn't just "give her away" when things get a little tight) It will be much better financially in Jan. for sure. so please no crap about me "giving her up"
C) She is the "runt" of the litter, and I don't know how much she weighs.
D) no crap about pitbulls, they are very gentile if you raise them in a loving and kind home.

He is now 11 months and he stands 34" at shoulders. Is he going to grow more taller now? Please give me some tips on his diet.

I right now feed him on home cooked food. Giving him flour malt + milk thrice a day. ( mixed flour of brown rice, jowar, wheat, few other pulses ) AND I FEED HIM CHICKEN once in three days.

Please let me know if the commercial food(packed) have any significance in huis growth. But as far as his health is concerned......he is doing great, but i think if i switch him to red meet , he will improve his fur coat condition better.
Thanks.
