You have to walk your puppy at least twice a day and take her out more often about 5 times for relieving herself. Twice a day walking is for the exercise.

Having a puppy means that you have to give it attention...

How much is enough? Well depends on how old she is, but you should not leave your puppy along for more than 2 hours at a stretch. You have to play with her, teach it new things, make sure she knows her boundaries.

Good luck. It's a full time job, as you must well know.

Firstly, how old is your pup? If it is under 12 weeks of age (and therefore wouldn't have had all it's shots yet) it shouldn't be going on walks anyway. Secondly, how long are the walks you are taking your pup on? A young pup, say under four months, does not need more than 10 or 15 minutes of exercise a day - this includes play time. It is a bad thing to overexercise a puppy, as it can damage their bones as they are still growing. Walking your puppy should be started gradually, building up from the time the pup is around three/four months up until eight months. Remeber, even a small dog won't finish growing until 12 months - bigger dogs like my husky didn't finish growing until he was 2 years! If your puppy is under six months, regardless of breed, it does not need more than one walk a day.

If you are worried about your puppy not getting enough attention, have you thought about just spending time with it instead of walking it? What about spending ten minutes everyday training your puppy (such as sit, shake, lie down etc). We have a nine week old pup that I spend time with everyday training. She loves learning new things and being able to understand my commands, and of course the treats! You could also just play with your puppy. How about playing fetch or having cuddles?

The biggest mistake people make with dogs is humanising them. We often put our human emotions onto our dogs. For example, if we are at work all day we are worried our puppy is sitting at home thinking that we don't love them, because we aren't spending all our time with them. This is completely untrue! Dogs do not think like people, they think like dogs! When you come home from work, you're dog isn't thinking "Oh, where have you been I have been lonely! Don't you love me?" They are just excited to see us! Your dog does not love you any less for spending time away from him/her. If your dog has seperation anxiety, you should do the following: ignore your dog when you leave the house and ignore him when you come home (for a few minutes) then carmly let the dog sniff you, without you making a fuss over it. Reading up on puppies in general is a great place to start, it will give you a good understanding of what your pup needs from you :)

Well, the fact that you are worried about it shows your a caring pet owner. Just give her play time, but one walk a day is okay. She may need more depending on the breed once she is older.

If your really worried you could look into a dog walker or a maybe a nice preteen in your area who would do it for some extra dollars. Our 13 year old walks several. He enjoys it and gives him some money to spend that is all his own.

Friendly Hello,

I am sure your puppy is getting enought attention. It is ok that you do not walk that puppy 2 x a day. I am sure you are making up for that by individual attention, and spending time with the puppy in general.

Blessings,

You should be walking at least twice a day. Depending on the age of your pup, his/her bladder just can't hold it for a 12 hour period. If you can't be there to do it, look into having a pet service drop by to walk him or have a neighborhood kid do it after school. Good luck!

You're a good parent. If you're at work all day and can't really take the time to be with her/him, maybe you could send her to doggie daycare?
