My male dog, Harley, keeps peeing on our Christmas tree. We try not to let him get near the tree, but when he does he always seems to want to lift his leg on it. Any ideas?

My wife and I are going to be buying a new house. Because the yard is plenty big and well fenced, we will finally be able to get the dogs we have always wanted.

Our ultimate goal is to raise two dogs, but from puppyhood, and both from larger breeds; most likely some combination of lab, GSD, Malamute or the like. We both have good experience with these kinds of dogs and I am well confident we will be able to raise happy and conent members of our growing family.

My question(s) are related about the best way to go about doing this. Should we get both puppies at once, or raise one at a time (and wait a year or so for the second). Should we mix the sexes, get both boys, both girls, or does it matter? And does anyone have any other thoughts relative to all of this?

Keep in mind that we are not intending to breed the dogs - both would be "fixed."

Thanks!

I would like to know from those of you who actually own pitbulls...My boyfriend has a pitbull (she's about 6 months old) and my daughter and I will be moving in with him next year. Should I be worried about my daughter playing with the dog? Whats the best way to raise pitbulls to ensure they're not agressive.

Do not answer this question if you want to call me a backyard breader or anything else of the sort. I recently bred my boxer and I want to know when should see her tummy poof out? We've been to the vet and did everything step by step so those of you that want to bash me for breeding my dog stay away because if I take offense to what you have to say I will report you. I tried to ask this question before and all I got was a bunch of name calling. To those of you who can help thank you. Oh yeah Iwas thinking having their ears cropped but I prefer them floppy opinions on that would be appreciated as well.

My dog likes to dig outside, and just recently I discovered one of his bones in a hole. This isn't unusual I know, but today he was chewing one of his inside bones and he walked over to his bed, started "digging", once there was an indent he placed his bone in it and then started using his nose to "cover" his bone with "dirt". I am very alarmed by his strange behavior and wonder if anyone has experienced anything like this from their dog. If it helps he’s a boxer, German shepherd mix who we rescued from the local animal shelter, and he’s almost 6months old.

I don't usually tip my dogs' groomer. What would a groomer prefer as a Christmas tip? cash, gift card, baked goods... I have no idea!

Well, this year last March, we took my dog, Strider, to the vet for his shots, and a heartworm test. It came out positive. -_- So we spent the $400 on the treatment, and the vet gave him the first shot. I was scared for Strider, but the vet said that there's only a 3% chance of him not making it... PLUS Strider was only 2 1/2 yrs old, and it just BARELY showed up on the test, the vet said. So it wasn't bad at all. Strider only lasted 2 weeks. =( Throughout the 2 weeks, my mom called the vets office TWICE on seperate days telling them that Strider was breathing really hard. But they said that was "normal"... both times mum called. On Saturday, he started peeing blood. So we waited to see if it would stop, and it was night time so we waited until the next day, Sunday. Of course, they're never open on Sunday, so that morning mum called and left a message. We got a call back from a /different/ vet who is a lil' ways out there, and we brought Strider in... (cont...)

At what point has a vet overstepped boundaries and violated his code of ethics? I understand vets are there to make money as much as help pets, which is why they promote crappy foods they are paid to endorse, and try to run excessive blood tests when there's nothing wrong with the dog to start with, and try to sell expensive shampoos that are no different than pet store brands. I've even caught them adding nail trims and ear cleanings to my bill when I did not ask for nor receive such services!! But the other day, I feel a vet went too far, and may have even endangered a dog's health for the sake of making money. (continued below)

My dog is a year and a half old. Until now when we leave the house he always stays in his crate. Yesterday however I dont' know if we didn't close it all the way or if he unlocked it himself but he was out of his crate when I got home. Nothing was deystroyed, so now I'm wondering if I can stop putting him in his crate when we leave. Anybody have any suggestions?

this is pissing me off. I adopted a puppy from a shelter. He made dog #4. I live a mini farm and 5 acres. Well, pup stayed in the house with us. But, happened to get out with my girls when they were going to catch the bus. My other 3 dogs are outside dogs. They always accompany my daughters to the bus and meet them when they get off. Our yard is the bus stop. So there are several children that wait on our property for the bus to arrive. Some parents park and wait for the bus with their children. Well, when pup followed the girls with my other dogs, he came up missing. I searched and searched. One of my older daughters friends that catch a later bus called me a few days later and asked if we had a pup. I said yes. She said that seen one of the parents that wait in my yard take the pup. I confronted the parent and she denied taking it. I want my dog back. What can I do?

I have 6 kids that range in age from 1-9 years old. I think it is finally time to get our family a dog. I have been doing TONS of research but want real families to answer this question.
I also want this dog to be atleast easy crate trained because it will be an indoor dog. We have acreage so that may make a difference because this dog will have plenty of room to run. We have a fenced yard, however, it wouldn't take much for a dog to get out of it(we have a cattle gate and they don't tend to be close to the ground!) So, in other words, I want a dog that won't tend to run off that is very loyal to our family is great around kids. I would rather them not shed horribly.
I know this is alot of characteristics. We have looked at mini schnauzers, boxers, mini dauchsund. But just want real family experience.
Thanks sooo much. My little girls will love you for it.
BTW, I also have an indoor cat and a ferret so maybe a dog that wouldn't try to harm either of them.
