My very patient dog with a mixed breed just gave birth to 4 puppies all by herself 5 days ago. Right now, the puppies look healthy and fine since they always get milk from their mother.
What else should I do?
Am I forgetting to do something?
How long will it take for their eyes to open?
How long until they get to walk?
How long until the cord thing left on the puppies disappear?
How long until they get to eat real food?
How long until they can be allowed to wander off outside their "nest"?
How long until I can give them a bath?

Oh yeah, sorry for the long questions but if you're actualy answering them, please be specific with months or days. THANKS! ;) It's my dog's first time and she was SO persevere she wasn't even making any noise! XD

Our dog is an older Yorkshire tierrier. He has a bad habit of leaving little piles. It seems to be deliberate, as a sign of frustration for not getting enough attention. However, with a family of 4 he gets LOTS of attention. He will even go under a chair with one of us sitting in the chair. It's become such a frustration that we are considering getting rid of him. We have tried both positive and negative reinforcement, to no avail.

We rub his nose in it when he goes, and lock him out. this is the most common punishment. We have tried also praising him and giving a treat when he goes outside.

He does not do it all the time, just when he is upset.

ideas? or anyone want a dog...

Why does it seem like purebreds are soooo much harder to breed than mutts? I hear people talking about medical bills when it comes to birthing baby purebreds, but I have a few friends who have had accidents with their dogs and wound up with perfectly healthy mutt litters. Shouldn't the expensive purebreds birth easier than an untracable mutt, I mean, if they're soooo much better.

*I'm not for breeding mutts, I'm not for breeding purebreds, I'm for breeding pets, and the only perk to purebreds is you know what you'll get, and you almost know there will be problems with the birth, at least that's what everyone trying to justify $1000+ puppies seems to think. Prove me wrong, but don't put me down for asking a question. I'm not a breeder, nor do I want to be, and if I did, I wouldn't post it on here because there are so many pricks about. But explain why a small breed mutt births more *8pups* and easier than a small purebred who needs c-sections and has a max of 4 pups?*

i'm interested in siberian huskies, but i'm still doing research. can anyone recommend to me a good breeder i can talk to, that you've had a good experience with? they don't have to have current litters or anything, i'd just like someone to talk to for now. i'm more interested in serious breeders with show dogs and champions or possibly working dogs please, not hobby breeders.

You can't say that the price a breeder asks is the price of raising the puppy to the point that you get it. If that were the case, why on earth are the adult dogs cheaper?
Also, how would it cost more for standard shots and deworming and food and such for a toy breed than a rather much larger breed?
Find me a puppy that actually cost $1200 to raise to the point of placing, and that will be the day that I spend $1200 on a puppy.
And if the owner is indeed charging more for a puppy than was paid to raise that puppy, how are they losing money? Eh, riddle me that?
I'm not attacking, but both trying to prove a point or be proven wrong myself.
PS. Do you pay yourself for taking care of your dog? If you don't, then you can't honestly say that the difference is in the time and effort spent showing the parents and socializing the pups.

She has slept in my bed once or twices and I was going to make my bed this morning and I found tons of dried up worms I'm guessing in my bed! They look like dried rice! I am so grossed out but I don't know what to do! I am worried but should I be seriously worried? Help!

there's going to be one in gainesville, fl. on saturday, and i'm gonna go. my question is, Is buying a puppy from one of these markets such a bright idea? Seems to me the only two good options for getting a dog at all are from a breeder who will surely overcharge because it's bred from champion stock, or a shelter where I will be charged mere pennies, but for a puppy that is not anywhere close to what I'm looking for, and I'm so not looking to settle.
We already have a blue and gold macaw that we picked up at the last pet market *which was the only place we knew we could get one, and later found we'd gotten him a couple 100 dollars cheaper than a petstore would offer* earlier this year, and he's awesome. There were puppies there last time, and that is where I fell in love with the breed I want *papillon*. But is it really such a great idea to buy from a Pet Market? I can't find any info, but I know petstores buy their stock from there, cages/toys/anything really. Not all, but some.

I have a home in Wisconsin on a lake with a 40 foot wooden dock. My yellow lab loves to dock-jump, but he isn't very good at sitting and staying at the end of the dock. Usually someone has to hold him at the end of the dock and then let him go once I am in position at the end of the dock. Does anyone have any dock-jumping tips or know of places where that have facilities with trainers?

Why is it when people ask breeding questions on here some people have to go a rampage about statistics and start calling names. Really if someone wants to know length of gestation why not just tell them and let that be the end of it. I know that most of you have a passion for protecting animals and I agree with how you feel but instead of going off why not simply state your opinion and educate the asker. I am very curious as to what triggers these angry responses and want all viewpoints. All answers will be read thoroughly.
