Puppies usually poop soon after eating. Walk them after their meals, and stay out until they go.

Get a dog training book from your local library. It is free if you return it on time. Plus, if you find a book that you really like, you can buy that book instead of taking your chances with the one you pick from the bookstore.

If you wish to paper train this is how you do it:
Put the dog in one room that he/she cannot get out of. Cover the ENTIRE floor with paper. The dog will be going on the paper. After a day or two start taking a row of paper out daily. They dog will keep going on the paper. Don't move too fast. Once you have removed all the rows but one, then start shorting the row to a space that is suitable for your dog.. It works and you have it trained!

Two techniques. First never put potty area by eating area. Dogs naturally go where they dont eat, against instinct. So separate the two areas. Use the same area for eating, so they know where that is. Also, take a step back and confine them to an area with only newspaper, so they associate it with potty. Like a kennel, or a swimming pool, or even a large box. When they stay there long periods of time, they will potty there, then praise them for it. Good luck.
