I have a home in Wisconsin on a lake with a 40 foot wooden dock. My yellow lab loves to dock-jump, but he isn't very good at sitting and staying at the end of the dock. Usually someone has to hold him at the end of the dock and then let him go once I am in position at the end of the dock. Does anyone have any dock-jumping tips or know of places where that have facilities with trainers?

I believe the sport is actually called "fly dog" but I would swear to it. I don't know of any traing facilities in your area due to the fact that I live in the Northwest, but you should be able to find some in your area. I know there are some in Canada, (above Michigan).
I have only seen the sport on OLN and it seems like I remember one of the dogs being held at the starting line while the other person threw the decoy.
Good luck and I hope you and your dog enjoy.

I would teach him to sit at the end of the dock, with a treat. Once he sits give him the treat and then get him to jump in the water. You can start this at the end of the dock or middle also, as long as you get him to sit for you. Take him for a good long walk to tire him out first if you feel he is too excited at first. My dog is like that and listens better after a good walk.
