All Chihuahuas are Toys -- they're in the Toy group.

If you're in the USA, try this link to locate a responsible breeder in your area:

Go to a dog show. You will meet people who have spent years breeding chihuahuas, and really know the breed and what to look for. Some breeds have certain health problems it's really good to know about up front. When you buy from a pet store, those dogs are usually bred not for love but only for money. You might also try typing "chihuahua rescue" along with a major city name near you into Google...again, even if you want a puppy, these people can teach you alot about your breed. Good luck!

Somebody said chihuahuas aren't cuddly, but I'm going to have to disagree. I've owned chihuahuas all my life, and I can attest that they're very cuddly, lovable dogs.

Anyway, as most people have said, visit your local pet stores, or do some searches online. You can also ask your local vet, because he/she will likely be familiar with most local breeders and will know if someone around you breeds chihuahuas.

Also, I know that an itty bitty tiny dog is probably very appealing to you, but keep in mind, EXTREMELY small chihuahuas are more likely to get sick. You might want to do yourself a favor and buy a more normal sized chihuahua.

And to everyone who says that toy chihuahuas or teacup chihuahuas don't exist, that's baloney. There are plenty of teacup and toy chihuahuas out there. Sure, they are not a separate breed than ordinary chihuahuas, and sure the AKC doesn't give any kind of official recognition to them, but that doesn't mean that people who breed chihuahuas don't have a right to come up with certain terminology to describe certain dogs, even if the AKC doesn't approve. The AKC isn't the God of dogs or anything...

Please don't buy from a petstore...you'll only be supporting the cruel puppy mill industry. Try a rescue in your area. Chihuahua's are classified as a toy breed. Don't buy from any breeders that advertise "teacups"...it's a marketing scam to sell the runts of the litter.

there is no such thing as a 'toy' chihuahua. This is just a marketing ploy to sell really tiny dogs at a much higher price. Go to a shelter or look on petfinder.com

go to your local newspaper classifieds or a breeder look for one online keep in mind they can be expensive not just the cost but making sure you take them regularly to the vet due to they are very sensitive and prone to getting sick if not properly getting cared for they need lots of love and care they dont like to be bythemselves they get very lonely keep them in sweaters due to they get cold easily.www.enchantedchihuahuas.com

usually they are on differentdog selling sites but u have to be careful. in michegan(US) there is a place that sells rat terriers which come in three sizes. they are very cuddly dogs. chihuahua puppys are not cuddly by the way. rat terriers love to play and are very cute. they are a cross between a fox terrier and a manchester terrier. i bought mine a year ago and she is named Tinkerbelle!
