I would keep the dog inside if it is a house dog too. My dogs are hunters so if there is a squirrel they will bark. Since it is fall My friend and I went into the back yard one day. I saw what I thought was a leaf but then my dog Baby-bop picked it up and walked away. Then I thought they caught a bird but then I saw it's tail and it was a rat! So, there is hunting in some dogs blood. Baby-bop is a mix black lab and my other dog Percie is a mix Brittney Spaniel.

Ouch ! It's going to be very hard, unless you get rid of the rat's.. Which I hope you would be trying to do anyway .... They say once an animal taste's blood of another animal or human , they will always want to taste it again ... Your Puppy might need some training now ... Kind of costly,, I guess it will depend on how much you care about your animal ... Good Luck to you

Watch it when it's outside. There's really nothing you can say are do to deter this behavior, your puppy probably thinks that'll make you proud. Just in case this crosses your mind, don't put out rat traps or poisons, might make your puppy sick. Good luck with everything, and rats are gross.

It's not your puppy's fault that there are rats in the area;it is dog's pure instinct to attack them.I can imagine how grossed out you are;dispose of that rat and wash your dog.
If there is a rat nest close by, set up mouse traps outside.

Check her mouth at the door, that way she doesn't bring in anything that you don't want her to.
Dogs are drawn to new smells, whether it's from food, or a dead animal. My puppy found a dead bird in the backyard once, and she rolled all over it, so she smelled like death for days, until I was able to find the bird and dispose of it.

You can't. The rat is a gift to show how much your puppy loves you. Take a bow, you are a good dog owner!

Coat all the rats in your neighborhood with something bad tasting. Tabasco sauce comes to mind.

She's bringing you prey because she views you as the alpha. Those instincts still come out of dogs sometime no matter what the breed is. tell her no and bad in a harsh tone. when she sees that the alpha (that's you) disapproves of the behavior she will stop doing it.
