hopefully you are not going to put the dog outside on it's own permanently. Why have a dog at all if it isn't going to be a companion? Be very wary of secondhand. Check carefully for damage, weak spots, sharp edges, loose wires, nails and chewing. Thoroughly disinfect it if you buy one and take care to look for something well made with ease of cleaning in mind. There is nothing worse than a smart kennel which you have to crawl into on your hands and knees to clean out. Probably a good option would be to buy a small 6'X4' garden shed and build a run yourself. While the weather is still mild it will be fine. You need to fix a 6 inch board across the doorway at the bottom and put woodshavings on the floor. The board stops the shavings blowin out into the run. The shavings keep the dog dry. If the weather gets below freezing you can place a simple inner kennel into the shed. Even a tea chest with a bit of blanket nailed across the open part will suffice. Collect clean dry newspaper and spend half an hour a week ripping them into strips and store them in a bin liner. Put the paper into the actual sleeping box or bed inside the shed.A really deep layer of ripped newspaper will keep a dog warm on the coldest nights and you simply compost or burn soiled bedding once a week. The run needs to have slabs down so that you can hose down once a week and preferably a solid roof so that the dog can be outside in the run even on wet days.
Make sure the food and water bowls cannot be tipped over to make a soggy mess and provide stuff to amuse the dog. It is a lonely old life for a single outside dog and he will bark and howl if he is lonely. While a kennel and run is better than being shut indoors all day while everyone is at work I don't like to see dogs kept on their own if they have to spend 20 hours out of 24 in isolation. An only dog is a lonely dog.

I can recommend the DogIgloo kennels(Indigo Dog Igloo-Style Dog House by Doskocil). These are igloo shaped rather than square, with an offset tunnel opening, so windproof. They are made of relatively lightweight plastic (?) or fibreglass(?), but heavy enough to resist even gales, and can be hosed down as the top lifts off when you want to get inside. They are really good at keeping dogs warm in winter and cool in summer. This dog house offers comfort, quality and convenience. Igloo-style dog house features structural foam construction that helps to keep dogs warmer in winter, cooler in summer. Adjustable rooftop vent adds comfort and an extended doorway helps to keep out the rain, and offers larger dogs extended lounging space. And you'll enjoy the peace of mind of a five-year manufacturer's warranty.

I don't know anyone with a kennel for sale, but you could check online, Home Depot, Petsmart, places like that. A good idea for a makeshift kennel/run is to get some lumber from your local hardwood store and set up a frame, and fill it in with lattice. You can use chicken wire to reinforce it and to cover the top if you wish. It's a little time-consuming, but it'll save you some money.

I'd also suggest eBay.

If you click on some of the ads, you'll find that you can go to their website & look at other options available.

If you search for dog run or kennel in a search engine, you'll also get up websites of companies who might have something suitable for the price that you wish to pay. eg
http://www.dogservices.co.uk/list.php?ID=15

Otherwise, how about buying a Your Dog (or similar) magazine & looking at some of the adverts in the back? The cat magazines contain lots of adverts for runs, etc. And also adverts for places that sell the panels that make up the runs.

Or perhaps you could build your own? Or ask your boyfriend to ... after all if he might be living in it ... lol)

have you tried freecycle ???/
type freecycle and your town name into a yahoo search . Its a group run by yahoo and people give away stuff they dont need, no money changes hands . Its all about helping one another, which means when you have surplus stuff you put it on there for someone else .....

Good luck
