Dogs - August 2006

Well, to make a long story short, My elderly parents are tending this elderly dog. The dog will stay, so I and my mom have tried to do just that. On the whole, we do well. When it comes to ears and eyes, we tried several ways and none seem to work. Can you suggest something? also need tips on nail trimming. Thanks!

My Lhasa is biting himself continuosly and wounds himself.I bought some hot spot sprays and have sprayed on him,but he starts biting other parts of his body which doesn't have the spray on it. I have also used flea protection after his bath, but he still keeps doing it. is this a normal behavior for dogs to bite themselves or there is something wrong with my dog.what should i do.

Please let me know the ways to get rid of my shih tzu's bad breath. He is 3 years old and only eat dry food. For the past few months, he has a bad breath when he open his mouth but he is still very healthy. Any alternative way to get rid of his bad breath than going see doctor.

It's very difficult to clip my dog's nails... First of all, the quicks are very long, so there's not much to cut. And I don't want to try cutting the nail right up next to the quick b/c these nail clippers suck... They're basically just breaking the nail, not cutting it... I'm terrified of cutting the quick b/c I know if I do, my dog will scream so loudly, it'd give me a heart attack! xP I've cut them maybe 3 or 4 times before, and he's about 7 months old now. I just got done reading about nail clipping. I've read that if you clip the nail right up next to the quick, it will eventually recede and make it shorter, if you clip the nails every few days... But I can't clip it right up next to it. I've also read a big article and 'how to do' thing about dremiles (sp?). But it looked way too complicated, not to mention, I probably couldn't afford one. And the vet here is no professional. He just clips off the edges. And I don't know of any dog groomers... Hmm... Maybe PetSmart. ^_^

I raise them and if you do it right they are one of the most loyal and sweetest dogs to own. My 2yr old nephew can sit on their back and play with them. Not once did they ever try to hurt them. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners!!!!!

my friend has 2 pups 1 which has parvo and is sick the other not showing any signs yet. but is not vacinated she brung it to my house and i have a chiuhua puppy 7 weeks old who has not had her shots yet till shes 8 weeks old can she catch parvo.the pup she brung over is not sick yet but was around the pup that was.

Currently, we have a German Shepherd that is wrecking havok on our backyard, through digging holes and also, sometimes she jumps up on us, because her last owners (she was a show dog) rewarded her through letting her jump up, does anyone have any advice through how we can stop her from digging and jumping up?
Also, she's just over a year old, is that makes any difference.

My dog today got with my boyfriends mothers female dog who is in heat right now. I posted this question last night but had something to add and I am just fuming!! The gist of it is...We were at somebody's home (a relatives) and my 10 month old daughter was sitting on the couch with my husband. This person's daughter owns a pit mixed dog, and it was laying in it's bed a couple of feet away. My daughter wanted to get off the couch so she leaned forward but didn't actually get off the couch, my husband was holding onto her still. The dog growled and snapped at my daughter, but my husband quickly pulled her away. The owner of the dog actually yelled at my husband for not controlling our daughter!! My daughter did not provoke the dog at all, she didn't even go near it.

I think this dog is essentially dangerous around my child and do not want to visit anymore if the dog is there, they say I'm being paranoid.
