I raise them and if you do it right they are one of the most loyal and sweetest dogs to own. My 2yr old nephew can sit on their back and play with them. Not once did they ever try to hurt them. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners!!!!!

I totally agree with you. It's nice to see other people on here sticking up for the "under dog"!
There were 22 fatal dog attacks in Canada between 1983-2003. The only case involving a pitbull, (amstaff to be exact) was in 1995 when a drunken man provoked it. The rest were mostly huskys, rottweilers and german shepherds. Any dog can be dangerous it just has to have the fuel. The fuel being irresponsible and ignorant owners.

As a former owner there is alot wrong with the breed of dog that is more aggressive than the average dog. This is not a pet dog! they are trained and are working dogs and they should have their space (in the country)Never should a pitt be around children unsupervised or people who do not know what they are capable of doing to a person. Good luck on the raising them because if you don't breed the right ones than you will have the mean ones and then there will be more talk about banning them. I believe the breeders have a responsibility in making sure these dogs do not get with an owner just for the money ....The dogs need space and work without these they are a ticking time bomb My dog never actually bit or mauled anyone but that is because I never gave her the chance when she became aggressive to others and lunged at strangers I put her to sleep. No I do not feel bad because I got her from a person handing them out at 50.00 and I wasn't aware of the fact she was a pitt until she got older and started showing aggression oh by the way had her fixed and put in obedience school none of which worked BEWARE

Would you allow your 2 year old nephew to approach and sit on a pit you were not familial with? I think not, because as you said there are bad owners.

There will always be bad owners, it is simply that a pit is one of the breeds that is capable of causing extensive damage to a human body.

I try not to put down pits, but to be honest I am damn scared of them because I know what they are capable of doing.

How often have you heard of a child being rushed to the hospital after an attack by a toy poodle or chihuahua?

Bad owners or not, the pit is a breed that will always strike fear in the hearts of most people.

agreed, but most people are not open-minded or responsible. And they think what they read in the newspaper is gospel. There is also a big market for "big, wide and bull" pit bulls. Puppymills run rampant with the breed so they are everywhere. Go to any kennel and you will see half of hteir dogs are pitbull or pit mixes. Responsible breeders are harder to find then responsible owners.
Keep on doing good and enjoy your APBT's!

I totally agree with you. I owned a pit bull cross called Jessie and she was the sweetest natured dog. It's the owners that make this dogs so vicious by mis-treatment or starving them so that they are better hunters

AMEN, they are just uninformed. All they hear is the bad stuff about them. I have 2 of the most adorable lap dogs...lol pit bulls. I must admit, first contact I had with them was 4 years ago and I had already formed a bad opinion before I met her. Was love at first sight, okay, she was dumber then a box of rocks, but loyal and lovable. Our pits are spoiled little babies, yep they do scare people who come to our property, and then proceed to beat them with their tales in happiness

Ditto . I have to agree on this one. In the last 20 years I have owned 5 Pitties. In fortunately 3 have died from tragedies . I own 2 now and never has any one of them ever had a aggressive bone in them to humans.I would never own any other breed of dog. Stupid owners or scum bags own these dogs and have created the problems in todays society.

They say that they have a genetic flaw that effects there brain and terretorial drive in many of them, do to breeding them so much to be aggressive animals. The same is supposed to be true with Dovermans. A man from my town raised them for many years, until the city passed a law banning them from town. So he moved out into the country. Then one day, someone went to check on him, and he had been mauled to death when the dogs turned on him in his own home.

there are MANY wonderful pit bulls...However, the breed has more than its share of unreliable ones..Including the one that attacked my 3 year old daughter....
and my friend's "sweetest dog in the world" that severely mauled her leg, because she told it to go lay down, when it was begging at the table.

Because they bite hard!!!!!!! Sometimes they can snap for no reason at all. He may be kind now but later he might turn to a werewolf.
