You can bathe her with Dawn or Ivory dish soap, or Ivory bath soap, and leave it on a few minutes. Put 1/4 cup of any vinegar or lemon juice in one gallon of water for the final rinse....
You can cover her with mayonnaise or Miracle Whip and leave on her for 20 minutes, then wash off with any shampoo or dish soap..use the above vinegar solution in final rinse..
My breed of dog is super sensitive to most chemicals, but does great with Revolution..You can get it at your vet clinic..or call around if they don't carry it yet..

the problem with fleas is, they don't live on the dog. so to get rid of them, you have to treat the dog's environment. that means the house AND the yard. fleas spend most of their time in the environment, they jump on the dog to eat (bite the dog) and then they jump back off to lay eggs in the carpet, dog bed, grass, wherever.
to treat the whole problem you have to remove the dog (and any other living thing, including yourself) and use a flea bomb in the house and spray for the yard. while you are doing this, go to a do-it-yourself dog wash and wash the dog in a good shampoo (it doesn't have to be flea shampoo, they don't really work anyway)... soap the dog up REALLY well, starting with the head and neck (if you start on the body, all the fleas will run up into the ears and hide out until the bath is over) and leave the soap on for 10-15 minutes before you rinse. this will kill most of the fleas on the dog. if there are any left, get them while they are still sick and slow from the soap bath... use a flea comb and comb it through the dog's fur. when you see a flea in the comb, dip it into a bowl of flea spray. this will kill the fleas but not put any chemicals on the dog.
before you take the dog back in the house, sprinkle Borax all over the carpets and rugs, under the seat cushions on the couch, in the dog's bed. make sure you get under all the furniture. Borax is not toxic to pets or humans, but it is abrasive and will kill the fleas by rubbing holes in their shells (chitin).
unfortunately, you will have to do the flea bomb/ dog wash thing more than once, because after you kill the adults, the eggs will hatch and you will have a whole new crop. ask your vet, but I think the flea life cycle is about 14 days, so you need to do this 2 weeks apart to get the new ones. also, you can use a type of chemical that inhibits the new eggs from hatching. that works pretty well.
your dog might be allergic to the flea bites (actually the saliva of the flea) and if that is the case, she will still itch for weeks after the last flea is gone. you can give her Benadryl (ask the vet, but I believe the recommended dose is about 10 mg per pound- much higher than for humans) or if that doesn't do the trick you may want to put her on a short course of steroids.
good luck, fleas are a real PITA.

Ack! I just had that problem this year. Cant believe how bad they were. BUT... If you give your doggie a bath in warm water and use any gentle kind of soap and let it stay on him/her for at least 5 minutes then rinse and repeat then he/she should be flea free. However, you have a worse problem than that..they are horribly prolific little beasts and you will have to treat your house as well..THEN do it again in 2 weeks..then maybe yet one more time before you will get rid of them. the eggs will hatch out in the first two weeks and then again in 2 more ..to ensure you kill all the little creeps do this AND then treat your lawn and garden area with Diazinon or something like it..Ortho has a good product which you simply sprinkle around the yard and then water..it makes a gas that kills all the little buggies that are buggin you.. . Be sure to keep your doggies food and water dishes out of the way when you do this and then hope for the best. To see if youve killed them in your house, at night, set out a white dinner plate with alittle soapy water in it then set a candle in the center.( They will attract to the light and heat of the candle.) In the morning if you have what looks like pepper sprinkled on the water, then treat your house again. Good Luck to you and Blessed Be~
P. S. Your dogs skin is in need of remoisturinzing after her baths. Alittle baby oil will help.

They make a very fine tooth comb--you can try brushing them off. It works well one a short haired dog. Also, soak the dog in a bath with warm water and baby soap. That will be gentle and then the fleas will die. You have to clean your house though also, because they will have laid eggs all over. Good luck--those are the worst!

It sounds like she is miserable!! Melaleuca and eucalyptus soaps or shampoos will kill the fleas and treat her skin as well as decrease the itching. Also you can add Brewers yeast to her food which is a great flea deterrent. Remember that you HAVE to treat your yard. vacuum your home regularly and keep her bed really clean to keep flea infestation from taking over you and your dogs lives!! Good Luck!

The only option is the vet for a special flea bath....or, maybe Aveeno will work on your dog; buy a bunch at CVS and give her a bath; also, buy some Benedryl and give her some of that to stop the itch; depending on the weight of the dog: check instructions for child doses.

I had that problem with a Border Collie of mine. Took him to the vet, and he put him on a type of steroid. In the mean time possibly try skin so soft ( found in most pet stores and bugs don't like it.
