I have 2 toy's & 1 teacup poodle. I keep them well groomed in the summer & let their hair grow in the colder months. My teacup tends to shiver when she's cut short so we tend to keep her coat longer no matter what the season. Every spring we take them in to be professionally groomed. Nails, ears & flea shampooed. This runs me about $100 with tip for the three of them. The rest of the year we manage on are own.Pay close attention to the eyes & ears as poodle hair tends to curl inwards & causes discomfort if not properly addressed. We live on a farm & the poodles have the run of it.You can just imagine what they get into but every night when they're on my lap I run my hands through their coats to find the problem areas. I use a pair of barbers scissors to remove knots before they turn into mats & tangles.Grooming powder can be applied to the inside of the ears monthly to remove the hair. Cut around the eyes as needed & trim nails the same. Apply flea treatment following manufacturers instructions. You don't have to spend a fortune on grooming to make them look presentable just due dilligence. You can view my poodles on my 360 page.

I've groomed more poodles than I can count. What kind of clippers do you have? Oster is a good brand, with a # 4 or 5 blade for the dog's body.
However, if your dog is a tangled mess, it's probably going to have to be very patiently scissored the first time and all the mats gotten rid of. After that, the poodle still needs to be brushed with a good quality pin brush to keep the hair from matting. (By the way, all dogs that shed, still mat if they have long hair.)
If you can't cope with all the mats this time, take the dog to a groomer, but after that, a good brush through once a week will keep the dog's coat mat free until the next clipping.

I used to raise poodles, and always just used the common dog clippers for grooming. Oster or Wahls work just fine.. However, they need a fine adjustment..Call your local groomers and ask if they will adjust your clippers for you, and show you how..there may be a $10 charge, or so, but you will have working clippers, and will know how to adjust them in the future.

Use a comb or Brush that gets to the undercoat. But since it already has matts you may have to shave them off yourself or you can let the proffesionals do it at local groomer whom you trust. The reason why I say Trust is because alot of Groomers will mistreat the animals in some way unless they are responsible to a Big company like Pet's Mart.

It's best to let the vet handle the grooming. It might be a bit more expensive but at least you have the peace of mind of knowing that you don't have a miserable dog with matted hiir.

You would probably be pleased with a puppy cut. This will leave the hair about 1/2 to 3/4 an inch all over. The top of her head (Pom Pom) and the top third of her tail will be left longer. Her face, feet, and base of her tail will be trimmed close. Her belly will also be shaved clean as well as around her rectum. The inside of her ears will be plucked. The length of her ears will be your choice. Some people like to have them bobbed, others will let them get long.

You may have to take her in to the groomers this time and then use your clippers to keep up her cut (just keep her brushed and don't let her become a matted mess before you clip her).
Groomers have special clippers with different sizes of detachable blades that can cut through this mangled mess of hers.

First, bro; put on a shirt for your profile picture. Two, poodles are not cool for guys. If you ever want to get laid, get rid of the poodle and get a more manly dog.
