My Female Yorkshire Terrier is in heat right now, and I was wondering how long she would be in heat, and how many times a year she will be in heat. She is currently 1 year old.
Thank you so much for helping me!

They are in heat for 3 weeks, with the second week being the time when she is ripe for breeding. They normally have 2 heat cycles a year.

Yorkie In Heat

All dogs, regardless of breed are in heat for 21 day.
There may be a variance of 1 to 3 days. The first part of her heat her little "tootie" will become very swollen. There will be several days (7 to 10) where she will leave small spots of blood everywhere she sits. Do not allow her any where near ANY males for the full 21 days. It only takes about 20 seconds for a male to lock/breed a female. You will have to watch her like a hawk, during the middle week of her heat EVERY male will look good to her.

Dogs will have a heat cycle every 5 to 7 months. I have had them have their first heat as early as 5 months and as late as 14 months. Dogs are as different as humans, but most heats will fall within the normal range.
If you spay her, you will not have any more heat cycles.

I have no idea what type dog madfly80 has that only has a 1 week heat. I have never heard of one.

I am a breeder and I still had trouble with all the tecno babble you got from Dazzlingstarz.

I would say that your Yorkie is pregnant. If a male dog was around anytime she was in heat and that was not neutered, then you probably have a litter due in another month. Dogs are pregnant for 63 days. And yorkies have small litters, sometimes with c-sections. It would be a good idea to take her to the vet for a check and an ultrasound. Just to be safe. Also, dogs usually come into heat 2 times a year, spring and fall (usually). Heats are usually 6 months apart. Good luck!

Most females go into heat for approx. 1 week , twice a year. If she is not a show quality dog consider having her spayed. Females that are not spayed have a considerably higher rate of reproductive tumors and cancers. If you are interested in breeding please take a moment and do a little research on genetics and common hereditary disorders in your specific breed. www. akc.org has an excellent website that can give you really good information on breeding. If you should choose to breed her, at least you will be equipped to make the most ethical and responsible choices that go along with breeding a dog. also take a look at www. petfinder.com and see just how many yorkies are listed in the shelter sytem across the country. for every puppy that you bring into this world a yorkie in a shelter loses their second chance.

The female heat generally occurs twice a year. The female dog will undergo a cyclical rhythm of reproductive function called the estrous cycle. Each dog has her own normal cycle that, once established, tends to repeat itself. Proestrus is the time during which a bloody discharge first appears at the vulva of the female. During this stage the follicles from which the ova are produced are growing. Proestrus usually lasts about 6-11 days and can last up to twenty-eight days. It's end is marked by the acceptance of the first male. Estrus is the period which the female is sexually receptive and breeding can occur. Many females continue bleeding throughout estrus, but some do not. Ovulation usually occurs about twenty-four hours after the first acceptance of a male. (about 10-11 days after the onset of bleeding). Ova survive and are capable of being fertilized for at least four days following ovulation. Estrus lasts about 5-9 days and can last up to 28 days.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7Ei

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yes this is normal and you must not let her out or near a male for 3 weeks at least. She may be one of those females that suffers from false pregnancies and if so the kindest thing would be to spay her. # By the way you mean VULVA , not vagina.
