Just recently (about a week ago), my dog started shedding again. He's done this before around half a year ago, and I noticed it's because of his incessant scratching. Although, right now, I've come to notice what appears to be red bumps or mosquito-bite-type bumps that's very itchy to him. His incessant scratching and gnawing not only makes his coat shed, but he's practically wounding himself in the process. So far, it's on his sides, on his back, and one on his stomach. They're not all over, maybe just around 4-5, but I just really need to know if it's serious.

So please, does anyone know?

The reason I asked this question is my neighbors Pit Bull. (7 years old), just killed their 2 year old daughter on Friday. The police had to shoot it. Also, a buddy from work was mauled about a month ago by his brothers Pit Bull who he has played with since it was a puppy. This was not a fighting dog but a nice "family" pet, 3 years old. He is supposed to return to work in a couple of more weeks. His hand and wrist look horrible. I went to visit him in the hospital. The doctors are not sure he will have full use of his hand. I read a story about another attack this morning which is why I was asking the question. These two incidents are fresh in my mind. Please answer the questions with a level head. I thought we were not allowed to use profanity which is usually a sign of the uneducated. Please try to be civil and of even temperment or don't bother to answer my query.

I have too many puppies at our at home shelter. My vet recommended putting some of them in a pillowcase and hitting it with a baseball bat or throwing it off of a bridge. Isn't this animal abuse? He said it doesn't count if they are sleeping is this true? I don't know if it would be the best thing but if i have to should i put the 'less cute' puppies in the bag or is that descrimination?

My yellow lab has very pink skin, he's actually a white lab. In the summer he gets these "rashes" on his belly, this summer they are horrible! I took him to the vet and he says its an allergy. The rash some times gets to the point of a scab. They are mostly on his belly and up his chest. The problem is my vet is kind of "old school" and I cant get him an appt elsewhere for a week. The rash doesnt seem like it boths my dog a lot, he just does the normal licking and cleaning. I took some picture of it, if a vet out there would be will to look at them I would so appreciate it. My vet gave me Genesis Topical Spray it a solution of .015%Triamcinolone. He also gave him a shot there but nothing has helped. Please email me if you are willing to look at the pictures, I'll email them to you. Creativeidsignr@Yahoo.com Thanks! Here is a you can see his picture and how white he is thus pink skin. http://www.frostypawstreats.com/FrostyPaws/Default.aspx?tabid=27&ItemID=789

I would like to get a dog(large dog) that is a high watch dog and high guard dog, but needs to be somewhat independant I will be away for 8hrs a day, a dog that will want to jog about 8 miles a day or more, but if a couch potatoe I will consider. I live in a apartment that doesn't accepts dangerous breeds like pitbulls, rotweillers, chow chows. I don't want a medium or small size dog because I want some protection while jogging and when away from home, and because I like to wrestle a little with my dogs.

In the past I have had many pets like
Cat (ran away)
Bearded Dragon (took back)
Guinea Pig (took back)
Gerbils (1 died, 2 took back)
2 Fish (both died)
My Step Dad's dog (died last year)
Most of the pets i had when i was much younger, like say 10-11. I said I would take care of them, but back then i was too young to be responsible. We had a dog before, a German Shepherd, that was my Step Dad's dog and he had died last year. I want to convince my parents to get a Malamute because they really appeal to me and I have a big yard along with wods to hike in and many other things that make my house a good place for dogs to live in. I asked my Mom and she says she doesn't want a dog right now becuase they are expensive and too much work. How do I convince her I really want one????

Every day I read several stories about Pit Bull attacks on people, mostly toddlers and infants. Most of the people usually die from the attack. And No its not the owners fault because they trained them that way. There are hundreds of stories about Pit Bulls that were family pets and raised around small kids when suddenly one day they flip out for no reason and attack someone and maim or kill them. It seems to be in their nature which is why the idiots out there train them for fighting in the first place!

Its tail is already 3 1/2 inches long, and the breed standard is 4 inches. I may want to show this dog and need its tail to conform to the standard. I'm not sure if they didn't dock it at all or if they did it too long.

She's a week into crate training, and going outside when asked, however she still is going pee in her crate (she is really restricted in her crate so it isn't too big for her, she can barely turn around).. I've been off of work for a week, but tomorrow I got back.. I'm fearing I'm going to come home to a mess at my lunch hour tomorrow. thought puppies were supposed to eliminate where they slep and eat? What should I do? Should I place her blanket in the crate I'm not home? Will she be miserable if she pees when I'm not here, will it become a habit of hers since I can only take her out before work, my lunch hour and when I get home?
