They can be trained to be mean. If you take good care of your dog and don't let it bite or play rough with it, then odds are you will have a great dog. I have been around many of them and they can be wonderful. But don't let them around small animals or cats if they are the least bit rowdy. Good luck.

They are dangerous dogs if the owner is mean and abusive! People buy Pitt-bulls for one reason. Where I live a lady was in her garden seventy years old and was attacked by a Pitt and it killed her! There were five other attacks two weeks before, one man is still in the hospital! Our mayor put out an amnesty for people to turn in there Pitt-bulls or be fined and jailed! In Missouri these dogs are out of control three kids under five mauled by Pitt bulls! Be a good owner and treat the dog nicely and always keep it on a leash or go to The Dog Whisperer!!

socialize your pit! they more dogs and animals they meet and get used to, the better. when they meet an animal they are not used to or comfortable with, there is a chance they will get aggressive out of fear. pits are naturally animal aggressive from their pit fighting breeding. you can train them by socialization to be comfortable with other animals. the upside of the fighting being bred into them is that the handler would have to be in the pit with the dogs, so they were also bred to be not be people aggressive, or the handlers in the fighting pit would be in danger. socialize your dog as soon and as much as possible! the problem with public perceptions that pit attacks make good headlines, so any dog attack is a pit until proven otherwise. do a search for pit attacks and corrections. i found that some newspapers publish pit attack and have actually printed corrections that the attacks involved dogs not even close to resembling pits.

Give the dog a lot of love and attention. The more you socialize them and make them apart of the family the better. Be careful who you get the dog from. The temperament of the parents is a good in site to how the pup would be. My pit is spoiled rotten. She is nothing like how "people" labled her from just being a pit. It takes a lot of hard work and effort. It takes even more patients, but in the end it all pays off in my opinion.

Pit-bulls are only as mean as they are brought up to be!!! i hate when people say that they are a dangerous breed and don't belong in society. they say ignorance is bliss but ignorance id actually dangerous. because of ignorance there are places all over the USA(especially Florida) that if they find a Pit-bull, owner or not, they will immediately kill it.
the best way to keep your pit-bull from being mean is to love it and socialize it with other people and animals a lot!!!

iAs long as you got your pt bull from a respectable breeder and have not trained him to fight, you will be fine. Raise with love and lots of displine as you would any dog. I have a Pit Bull who is the gentilist creature ever. In fact my Shepherd Mix has attacked him several times and he has never retaliated.

EXERCISE,EXERCISE,EXCERCISE!!!!!!!!!
A tired dog is a happy dog.And pits need lots of it.
Play games with it like hide and seek, play frisbee with it,toss a ball for it to fetch.
Have Rollerblades?Get it to pull you.And spend lots of time talking to the dog.
give it toys and chews to keep himself occupied with while you're gone.
Give it's brain a work-out as well as it's body daily and you'll not have a problem if you make it clear that you're it's master and you'll not tolerate any crap for any reason.
