Cats - October 2007

We live on 9 acres of land in the forest. A young male cat has adopted us. He's a good cat and I'm considering letting him stay. Because of my wifes allergies, he has to live outside with our other cat of a couple of years. I've never seen our old cat poop. The new cat is leaving turds all over my front porch and walkway. If I can fix this annoying habit I'll take him to get him fixed and get his shots. If not I might need to take him to the pound. This morning I walked out on my front porch in the dark and barefooted only to step on a turd. How can I stop this?

Dark fabric couch, white hair cats. Not a great combo.
Anyone know how you can keep hair from getting all over it?

Also, about how much does it cost to have a cat de-flead at the vet and how much for each kitten? (I know it varies, but just so I have the general idea)

I'm looking for the best kitty litter for use in a household with 3 cats. Right now, I use Scoop Away, and have found it best out of all I have tried. I'm on a tight budget, and would love to find something cheaper that works as well, but I'm not willing to compromise performance for price. :)

My fiance and I own 2 kittens. There 5 and 6 months old and are from different litters. They have fleas and ear mites. We have taken them to the vet, got them pet insurance and since we got them at 6.5 weeks we have been to the vet every single Saturday with a problem with fleas. We have tried everything from flea sampoo to flea collars to frontline ...But nothing is working. What can we do?

A couple months ago, as a small kitten, my cat coughed up this gross wriggling worm, about 3 inches long and like, a milimetre thick. It made really sad howling noises beforhand but afterwards felt a lot better. Recently, looking in its puke I found another worm coiled up. He's not puking often, he's done it twice in his whole life. He's a really happy cat but also a dum dum. What does this mean?

I came home from work and there is a dead snake at the back door which looks like it has been attacked by a cat. It is black with a red belly and it looks like it is just a baby. I have two cats. One just ate and the other one I can't find at the moment, but that is not unusual. I called the vet and they said to look out for foaming at the mouth, unbalance and anything that doesn't look normal. If you have had any experience regarding snakes and cats could you please give me any information I should know. Also how long before the symptoms start and when can I be sure that the cats are fine?

And, if you do, what is it about them that you love? The furry tail? The cute little whiskers? What do you adore about the little rats who climb trees?

I wrote in about a week ago, about my cats swollen upper lip. We saw a vet, and he was diagnosed with rodent ulcerations, sore teeth and a slight upper respitory. He's been on 2 medications for about 7 days now. An injection of "Depo Pred", which is a steriod for the skin infection basically. And Orbax for 10 days. He didn't have an appitite for a few days after but he started eating a few days ago at a nice calm and slow pace. Our cats get wet food once or twice a week. Twice this week, and both times he's thrown up. Not violently, but a serious massive puke. 95% of it the wet food. 5% of it hair. He's never had a problem keeping wet food down, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if the throwing up of wet food is a side reaction to his medications. I'm calling the vet in the morning to ask, but I'm just curious if any one knows in Answers, because it would truely, ease my mind tonight.

My flat has become filled with flea and their larvae and pupae, despite having used flea and worm medication on my two cats. Has anyone heard that this has been an rspecially bad year for fleas, and can anyone suggest an effective remedy?

Long story short, ive been feeding a 3 stray feral cats 3, two of which have already been TNR. The third one i didnt trap in time and i think she had a litter (she was huge then skinny). I figured none of the kittens survived becuase i never saw any and ive been feeding the mom every morning and night. She never looked preoccupied with a litter hiding somewhere becuase she would hang out and wait for hours until I came home to feed her and the other two.
Anyways, tonight I looked outside where i always feed the cats and low and behond there were two baby kittens also eating from the food. As i told you im trying to stop the multiplying (TNR) so I freaked and took the two babies inside to my spare bedroom. I figured kittens have much more of chance to be adopted then grown wild cats. Anyways i do know a woman who runs a no-kill shelter and i plan to take them there tommorrow?
Did i act too soon?should I have let them be and trapped them when they were older?what should i do

Although grammar books say that animals must be referred to as an "it". Do you agree? Do you prefer to call your animals as "he" or "she".

My cat's box got really nasty at about midnight, the smell woke me up but being the abusive 15-year old cat owner I am, I just cracked a window and yanked a pillow over my head.

The unfortunate thing for me is that my blanket tends to fall off my bed, and I guess when the lower half of it was on the floor in a big lump of cloth, my cat couldn't resist. Can't blame her, but I also can't get the smell out.

Usually a run through the washer with extra detergent and a healthy amount of bleach does the trick, but we're out of bleach and I don't want to go get more if I don't have to, I have homework to do.

I already used some enzyme thing that did a lot for the smell, but it's a pretty strong smell. Detergent+enzyme thing+hot water= clean enough for me, but I really need to kill the smell. My cat got locked out of the room with her box a while ago and took a dump in my dad's closet...twice. Since then, he hasn't been kindly disposed towards her and I really don't want to get him mad.

Ok this is silly but......okay
My cat Tory was missing, and I was very worried, shes such a great cat and I didn't wanna lose her like I lost my dog =( (different sad story) & well I know its kinda weird for praying for a pet, but I did pray that she would show up and I'd find her, that was 2 days ago. and so last night I was watching a movie, and I said to myself "Tory where the F are you?" and about 5-10 minutes later I heard meowing, and I saw her through my window on the roof. I honestly have absolutely NO IDEA how she got up there! When no one ever has their windows up in the house, theres screens behind them. Idk it was very strange, even my mother wished for her to show up, do you think he could of answered? =)
please dont be disrespectful, you dont have to answer, I just wanted to share this experience, thank you =)

I have two cats, one male and one female. The female delivered three kittens half a month ago, and they are all healthy. Now, my problem is, after my male cat noticed that I'm giving more attention to the female cat, he pees everywhere! On my new sofa, on my carpet, almost everywhere it wants! I held it next to where he peed, and flicked him on his nose just to "teach" him to never do it again, and that it's wrong. I tried petting him as much as I could, but still, it's at it again! What's wrong? What to do now?
