how old are the kittens? If they are over 6 to 8 weeks this is normal for mom to get sassy with them. its time they get out on there own. Spayed or not, she would have swatted them anyway since she would have been going back into heat. As long as shes not out right attacking them and doing them harm. This is a natural way to tell her kids to fly the nest. Better get them homes and get them all fixed too!!

When a cat is spayed, all her sex organs are taken out. That means she will no longer have the hormones that gave her the maternal instinct in the first place. It's like the situation I had about a year ago when I introduced a kitten to my adult spayed cat. She didn't act at all maternal towards the kitten but kept her distance and would periodically hiss at her. After about a week, she accepted the kitten. Your situation is like what happens when a new cat is brought into a household where there already is another cat. They'll hiss and posture towards each other but over time, they usually learn to get along.

How old are the kittens? Their mother has most likely decided it is time for them to start being more independent, and it probably has nothing to do with the surgery. All animals do this to some extent, once the offspring are eating and drinking independently then the mother starts babying them less and less. That is part of their instinct too, teaching the little ones to care for themselves.

Have the kittens been weaned ? Maybe she's trying to wean them if they are old enough. She could just be trying to get them to be more independent, or it could be that she's just grumpy after the operation.I don't know a ton about cats, but my boyfriend's dog became more easily bothered by things after she was spayed.Good luck with them and best wishes.

ANother thing to consider is that to be spayed the cat has to go under anesthesia...anesthesia effects ALL people & animals diefferently...if your cat was JUST spayed it will more than likely take a few days for her to get back to her normal self...when I had my cat spayed she was like a evil TIGER for about 3-4 days afterwards(MEAN!!) then after the effects of the anesthesia worked its way completely out of her body she came around & got bakc to her old self...I myself experienced the same thign form being put under...for a bout 4 days after a small surgery i underwent I was VERY irritable & very much NOT myself.....anesthesia is some crazy stuff...gie her a little time BEST OF LUCK

cats are cats and they have different personalities. I've known a lot of cats and they all think they are humans, just like us. I know you are attached to the mother cat and the kittens too. It's just one of those cat things and it's a hard decision to make.

she has lost all of her hormonal and especially maternal instincts.... ya shouldn't have done that so soon.... time will heal all tho....she will learn to live comfortably with them. but she will not have any hormonally maternal instinct to mother them, or at least to a lesser degree...
